I didn't think the trailer was as bad as some people made it out to be. I enjoyed the first one... undecided on this one.

I liked the first one, and had high hopes for where the sequal looked to be going from RE's ending, but that just didn't look good at all .

If Anderson actually based it on the original game, then the film looses the whole "element of surprise". Before going in, we would already know who lives, who dies, etc...

He explains this on the dvd.

I actually look at not having Paul Anderson as the director as a big plus. Resident Evil is the first movie of his that I didn't immediately dislike. Also, I'm all for giving a first time director a chance to cut his teeth on a movie like this--just look what happened with Zack Snyder on this year's Dawn of the Dead.

Already did film one of my own(showed recently at a local film fest), and I'm working on more. Doesn't mean I can't do a project on a game series I've worshipped since 98 when I got my PSX.

The trailer was terrible. However so was the trailer for the first one.

I ended up enjoying the first one so I'll probably check this one out too. But I'll wait for DVD.

You and alot of other people... personally though, I really think Anderson is a solid director who can turn weak ideas into excellent movies. Mortal Kombat is a prime example - the entire story in the game was one paragraph of text... yet the film was a big surprise. I thought Event Horizon was really good as well. Soldier wasn't so hot, but I blame Kurt Russel for that one (not a big fan)... of course, others would suggest Anderson blew it on Soldier because the original script was so amazing. Then there's Resident Evil... as much as I loved the games, they were contrived crappy cliches of zombie movies with bad acting and a bad story. It worked that way as a game, but doing a straight port of the game into a movie would've been bad. I just really liked the first RE movie the way it was and wouldn't change a thing really. I haven't decided whether he's worth paying attention to as a director (like, "oh, this is directed by Anderson - gotta go see it") yet, but so far I have liked what I've seen.

I loved Dawn of the Dead - put Romero's version to shame (which was one of the few Romero films I actually liked) and I agree that it's sometimes a good thing to see a director's teeth getting cut. They often take the opportunity and put 110% into it. Like Phil Joanou with 3 O'clock High... I don't know - it's just my opinion. I really really liked what Anderson did with the first RE film and would've liked to have seen him helm the second one. I'm not writing it off - this new guy has an impressive resume like I said and it's quite possible it could be really good (although the trailer seems to lower the chances of that).

They love resident evil so much they had a theme park ride based on it. Oh how badly I wanted to go to that.

Not to mention all the RE goodies they get. I had to import a lot of stuff for my collection but I never was able to get the desert eagle.

I friend of mine saw it yesterday (he won a free screening contest over here). He loved it though he told me, unlike the first film that tried not to mess with established video game continuity, this one throws all attempts at continuity out the window. Case in point: Carlos Oliveira (Oder Fehr) is practically the star of the movie.

Basically he told me it had fun bloody deaths and loads of kick ass action. He gave me maybe too big of a hint regarding the ending (which I shall not reveal here) but it just got me more excited to see it.

It started here today but I'm stuck in class so I'll have to wait 'til tommorrow and catch a first showing.

I saw this tonight. It was very lacking as compared to the first one, IMO, b/c:

1. I thought Jill's actress just wasn't very good. She had lots of "tough girl" faces, but it just didn't come across very well.

2. The fight scenes/zombie attack scenes were too shaky. If the first Resident Evil is more akin to the fight scenes in the Bourne Identity, the second RE is more akin to Bourne Supremacy. Lots of fights had a very Gladiator-esque feel to them.

among other problems.

I saw this tonight as well. It was better than I thought it would be. The camera did shake a whole lot. The goddamn movie made me jump out of my seat at least ten times though. Coulda done without that. The storyline and characters were pretty cheesy. Like the characters just did things that normal people wouldn't do in those kinda situations. There was some nice references to the video games; Jill's outfit and her line "Its ok they're slow, we can just walk around them" I seemed to be the only laughing at that line. It was ok, nothing great, I didn't have to pay for my ticket so its all good.

I loved this last line of his.

Spoiler:
Parents: If you encounter teenagers who say they liked this movie, do not let them date your children.

This film had an interesting plot but failed on two key elements:

1) the action scenes are staged and edited really badly.

2) there's not enough gore. If you thought the first one was dry, don't think it's gonna cut lose like "Dawn of the Dead" (2004) (gore factor: 7) or "Shaun of the Dead" (gore factor: 9)

I also thought Nemesis looked really lame, a reject from "Hellraiser 3"

Ebert is an idiot. How could he not know the name of the city in the first Resident Evil was and is Raccoon City?! Does he even pay attention when he watches this stuff? This isn't the first time he's missed obvious plot points and is dumb enough to write about it in his articles.

Just came back from it. I thought it was awesome. Much more akin to the games then the first one. Much more in the style of it as well i.e. dark corridors, surprise situations.

Great action flick.

Perhaps the film relies on familiarity of the video games, but I don't play this game, and thus, the film suffers from woeful inadequate character introduction and development for me. But if you get the first 40 minutes out of the way, it's high on mindless action and it's a loud, loud movie (HT bassheads will enjoy the soundtrack when the film hits DVD).

I give it 2 stars or a grade of C.

i LOVE the video game series and absolutely hated the 1st RE film. If I ever see another "laser grid" in a flick I'm just getting up and walking out. So many things about how the games are made is translatable to a flick and they just threw all that out the window and made a pile of crap.

with the above commentary in mind... who here agrees and liked the second movie? lol!
