I think it'll be in 70mm. I'm lucky enough that I live close to one of Regal's flagship theaters. Someone else here does too, might even be Djariya?

Yes I live about 30 minutes from the Regal at the Irvine Spectrum that has 70MM.

As I said earlier very few theaters have 70MM

Looks like it’s playing in IMAX just a few miles from my house. I’m going to take my son. He’s never seen Jaws and I’ve never seen it in the theater!

Watched Jaws@50 last week. It was decent. Fun seeing a bunch of big name Hollywood insiders get interviewed but it's mostly just a puff piece. The Shark is Still Working still reigns supreme for Jaws documentaries. I can't imagine I'd ever rewatch it, unlike TSiSW.

Anyone catching it this weekend?

What do you think would be the best format to watch it in?

LieMAX
DBox
3D

Re: JAWS re-release

I'm taking my daughter to see it for her first viewing at a special standard screening on Monday as part of a Monday Movie Club my local theater does where they'll have trivia and hoopla beforehand.

I saw it in 3d when they first put it out 2-3 years ago and it was AWESOME. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it'll work out for me to get to see it 3d this go round. The closest theater doing that is just once a day at a bad time for me schedule wise, it's 45 minutes away and I have my daughter for most of the time it'll be playing there and though I think she'll like it she won't be down for 2 showings of Jaws within a week but if anything in my schedule including a few work meetings changes I'll also catch it in 3d.

Would highly recommend it.

I’m seeing it Saturday in IMAX.

I got tickets for Saturday in IMAX as well. I had the option for 3D but decided against it.

This will be the first time my son has seen the movie so I’m looking forward to his reaction.

Re: JAWS re-release

I may grab IMAX tix as well. We've all seen this movie countless times but it might be worth it to see once more in IMAX. I never cared for 3D to begin with so that was a non-starter for me.

Re: JAWS re-release

It's not as if the film itself has elements for the typical 3D jump scares and things like that. It's more on par with the initial 3D like in Avatar where it's environment enhancement. I was skeptical at first, but it makes it look that much clearer to make certain scenes feel like you're there with them. I noticed this with Brody and the college kid going to Hendricks to find Chrissy's remains. There's more depth of field so it really stands out. Kind of like an iPhone photo taken with the standard photo mode or portrait mode.

I may grab tix to see it just to get the popcorn buckets and barrel sippers.

Seeing it in IMAX tomorrow night. I live near a true 70mm screen, so even though the movie isn't shot that way, it should still be huge and great

I have tickets for next Tuesday in the IMAX. I saw it on the same screen a few years ago during the last run and thought it looked and sounded phenomenal

If my IMAX wasn't closed until Wicked 2... I'd probably go.

That made the choice even more difficult. I like immersive 3D more than pop out 3D.

At least at my AMC they're already sold out of the popcorn buckets :( They released them way early. I think around the time Lilo & Stitch came out and I just ignored them because I wanted to pick them up for when it re released. Then I asked a couple of months ago and they're all sold out. That was dumb. Unless they got a new shipment in for this release? I really wanted the Amity tin. I should have picked it up when I had the chance.

The giant shark head was on sale for pretty cheap on the actual 50th anniversary.

I hate 3-D, but have to admit some of the Jaws 3D was really good. At the start of the movie, I kept wanting to reach up to wipe my face because the water level came out up to the bottom of my eyes, and that created a weird, phantom sensation where it almost felt like something was touching the skin there.

We're seeing Jaws at an AMC IMAX theater this weekend. Does anyone know if the usual 20+ minutes of trailers will play before it, or will it start right at the listed time? What's your exprience, please?

I don’t know about trailers but I have heard there is a brief Intro by Spielberg.

Re: JAWS re-release

So... I went to a 4DX screening today. First (and last) time to experience this. How annoying, especially for a film like this. There is an intro by Spielberg (see below). And because of this intro, I believe it threw off the synch to the 4DX. I calculated that it was about 90 seconds ahead of the film and I alerted the theater manager of this. Anyway, heres my haul from today's screening.

Intro by Spielberg.

Re: JAWS re-release

My local theater has a really nice IMAX screen that I enjoy going to but it’s a smaller theater chain (Metrolux) so I’m not expecting any Jaws merchandise there. Otherwise I would totally buy a Jaws popcorn bucket.

Re: JAWS re-release

We saw this in IMAX and had a blast. Theater got to almost half full by the time the show started. Yes, AMC played trailers but now, we didn't get the Steven Spielberg intro. One kid has seen it a few times and it was the first time for the other kid and she loved it. Five stars, would watch again. And again!

Re: JAWS re-release

Jaws is my favorite movie of all time. And even now, I still find little things that I never noticed before.

You know, like the text passages in the books that Brody reads on sharks that were glued over the original text,
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...97d4dca142.png

or that Hooper has 2 sets of glasses,
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...48eefa4dc6.png
Notice the temples attach to the top corner end piece.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...633dcec90e.png
Here, the temples attach mid-lens.

Or you can see the tow hitch that's pulling the barrels behind the Orca.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...15e28e05fc.png
That little black speck next to Quint's left shoulder.

And like today, where does Brody's black turtle neck go? He's wearing it when Quint asks Hooper about the strychnine nitrate, but does he change to his blue short sleeve sweatshirt (that he wears on the beach the day Alex Kintner dies)? But then he's shirtless when they set the cage over the side, and then he's got his blue short sleeve again. In both instances of him wearing something, his gunbelt is strapped over it.

Re: JAWS re-release

I saw it this afternoon in IMAX and it looked and sounded fantastic!

Like Devilshalo above, I was noticing things I’ve never seen before. Like a little fish swimming with Chrissie right before she becomes the first victim. Or “bad hat”Harry being one of the leaders during the town hall meeting. Or that Mayor Vaughn appeared to be holding a plastic cigarette during the scene where Brody and Hooper try to convince him to close the beaches. Or that Quint has a weird picture of an interracial couple touching tongues on the wall in his workshop that I’d never noticed before.

I told my son to keep an eye out for the shooting stars and wasn’t expecting them to be as big and bright as they were. I don’t know if they were enhanced for this version or not but they were like huge red streaks crossing the sky!

It also took me until the is release to realize that Quint didn’t completely lose it until AFTER he told told the USS Indianapolis story. It’s like reliving the incident as he told the story triggered his PTSD and he was crazed from that point on.

I’m glad I was able to get out to see this on in IMAX. It was my first time seeing it on the big screen and my son’s first time seeing it ever. He said he really liked it when it was over.

I don’t want to jump the gun but this thing could end up being a classic!

Damnit . . . I misread the listings. I was stoked for a 3D IMAX presentation . . . nope, they have both (two different things).

So . . .

IMAX or 3D? Which do you recommend?

Since the dog didn't get done at the groomer until late, I have an extra day to decide.

GoldenJCJ 08-30-25 08:27 PM

Re: JAWS re-release

^ I can’t speak for the 3D but the IMAX presentation was fan-fucking-tastic!
