I liked the movie. I didn't really pay much attention to the plot. And aside from some of the shaky cameras, it was a really good action flick.

But those of you who watch Angel get a nice treat.

CoR was great

The movie was excellent and those that where big fans of PB that went into this thinking it should be PB2 really have no imagination. Riddick was what made PB what it was and rehashing teh events of PB would be a waste of our time. The director explains this (if you bought the PB directors cut that came out june 1st) which i think was a great idea.

You can gain a great understanding of everything that takes place and it makes for a better enjoyment of Riddick if you watch the special features of teh directors cut PB as well as play the Riddick game for xbox.

And last note:

Spoiler:
Seeing Riddick kill a guy with a tea cup?! Come on thats the greatest thing in any movie.... EVER! and FOREVER.

I'll be catching a matinee of this tomorrow. The video game that takes place before PB is awesome. I'll be using my free ticket.

Pretty much what I expected after reading Ebert's 2-star review here.

Did she change her name? She's credited as Alexa Davalos

I loved this film, especially the last shot of Riddick. One thing though, in the trailer they show Riddick convulsing and letting off an energy charge that takes out everyone around him, where was this scene? I thought it was some sort of extension of his race, well, maybe in a deleted scene or in a sequel?

I think they combined the character name & the real name. I'm pretty sure electra girl's name was Gwen on the show.

I was really looking forward to seeing this today but plans got all screwed up. I won't be able to get out until Sunday, or maybe Monday now.

I'm glad of the direction of the film. The 1st one is over with. That's one story of Riddick. I always thought the movie was more about him and his situation more than the flying Aliens. I'm glad to see them showing more of his life.

It was a good 2 hours of entertainment. nothing really great to write home about. I felt the ending has a little army of darkness to it. Made me feel like Van wants to be the next Campbell as in he wants to create this character people just love and will eventually want to have fight against freddy and jason.

I really thought it was suckage that
Spoiler:
Jack died. she was hella hawt and under used to make me actually care enough about her and her death.

Well i just got back from seeing this today (i used that free movie ticket ) and i have to say it was pretty good!
First of all i have to say that i like Pitch Black better and i still think that thier trying to force the character of Riddick down our throat. In Pitch Black i liked the character more, but in this film, he was way too over the top. Like someone else here said, i never once worried for him because i pretty much knew it was a given that he was gonna kick everyone elses ass. He also had way too much one liners and girls in the theater were getting me sick cheering for Diesel everytime he said something cool or whenever he striked a sexy pose.
But the film was still very enjoyable. The action was cool and i enjoyed lots of the scenery. And the ending was hella nice!

Cheese Fest. One of those movies I really liked but don't know why.

The movie looked like Frank Herbert had sex with H.R. Giger, and then gave birth to a steroid pumped baby.

I'll be looking forward to the DVD on this one, I have a feeling that alot got cut out.

Oh yeah, and a question or two.

Spoiler:
1. Are the Necromongers supposed to be dead or something? Some, the guys with the scuba goggles looked like walking corpses from Dawn of the Dead, while others look like they just got a bad mosquito bite on the neck. 2. What exactly did they do to ALTER people into Necromongers? Besides giving them bad hickeys, what about them changed, besides their wardrobe? Was it just brainwashing?

well lets see.

Spoiler:
Those scuba gear necromongers were just the hunt dogs if you will. they sense out warm non-necro blooded creatures. The leader was half dead, half alive. that is why he had that special skill of transporting himself or whatever. The converted were just brain washed and the hickie was just part of the cleansing.

I really wanted to like this.
I didn't expect it to be Pitch Black 2 (whatever that would be).
I watched it with an open mind.
I really like sci-fi movies.
I also really like big budget summer blockbuster flicks.
I also really like Vin Diesel... and the Riddick character especially.

Still - I didn't like this movie.
I didn't hate it either.
Alot of it was just too stupid and simplistic.
None of the characters were fleshed out enough to be worth caring about.
None of the characters were as interesting as the group we had in PB.
They gave a brief run-through of the events of the first film throughout this one which is good I suppose...
The problem with it is that the way it was done kinda altered the events and characters of PB.

My roommate hated it.
I will buy the DVD only if it contains deleted scenes and is rated R or is unrated probably.
Last night I watched PB again in anticipation of seeing this tonight.
Glad I did.
I think seeing PB first is a good idea.

I thought Riddick was above average. I thought Pitch Black was better, but this one had some nice action and I like the ending. You do have to remember that this was supposed to be a trilogy and Pitch Black would play the role that The Hobbit was for LOTR.

Also, here are some rumors about the DVD:
http://www.davisdvd.com/news/rumors.html

David Twohy, writer and director of the upcoming The Chronicles of Riddick, has said that he reluctantly cut a key scene featuring actress Kristin Lehman as a character named Shirah. In the scene, Shirah appears to Riddick (Vin Diesel) with information about his mysterious past and his role in an epic battle raging in the universe. "There was a concern that between the Judi Dench character, who was a little mystical herself, and the Shirah character that there was just a little too much mysticism going on, and that it didn't allow the audience to get grounded as much as we needed them to be to go forth and enjoy the movie," Twohy said in an interview. "I'd be interested in putting [it] back in the film [in a director's cut on DVD]. The scene is the main cut—but not the only one—that may find its way back into a director's edit at some point, Twohy said. "The first version of the movie was two hours and 50 minutes long and [the final cut is] two hours," he said. "So 50 minutes of footage fell by the wayside between the first cut and the last cut. But, that is not that unusual in the business. I mean, very few movies can say 'We lost one scene, and that's it.' It's been my history where I will shoot a lot more than we use. I must say that the version we have out now has a lot of drive. It has a lot of energy and it feels like a good pace for a summer film. But, yeah, it feels like certainly the director's version would be longer by about 15 minutes." The Chronicles of Riddick opens on June 11th. (thanks to SciFi Wire)

Karl Urban (Lord Vaako) threw me for a loop, since in this movie he looked like Brad Pitt crossed with Michael Ironside's character from Highlander 2. My friend who I went with, just sat there and tried to figure out where he had seen him before. He was Eomer in the LOTR series. Then my friend did a forehead slap... duh.

He had seen PB, and I hadn't. I was never lost or wondering what was going on. I thought it was a good movie, good acting (insert "I hate Thandie Newton" here), decent story, above average special effects (minus the pinecone dogs), I'll probably get the DVD.

One thing that bugged me was that the Lensers looked like the Borg in scuba gear.

Off Topic question: When the went to the firey planet, and they were talking about how the day side was 700 degrees and the niht side was -300, it reminded me of another sci-fi story, where there was a similar planet, but the city was on legs and would "walk" around the planet staying in the optimum conditions. Was is a movie or a "Star Wars" novel?

Director Twory spoke of 15 minutes cut due to marketing reasons, and we'll see that on the dvd directors cut etc.

Those could be important 15 minutes for the film.
