Yeah, you see the burst in one of the trailers. Makes sense. I'd still like it if they'd use the squid but that's a change I can live with.

Good news. If they can pull it off, that's a great piece of meta-comic-adaptation cinema. Very cool.

Apparently I'm the only one who skipped the lame pirate ship comic crap while reading the Watchmen. It was boring and had nothing to do with the overall "Watchmen" story. Definitely not watching this on DVD.

Actually I was the same way. I found it boring towards the end. Just like Mason's book.

Unless the movie bombs. There were plans for a huge Speed Racer DVD/Blu-Ray release until it tanked and we ended up with a cute DVD game as an extra.

I think I skipped both when I first read Watchmen, but I'm re-reading it now and I'm reading it all this time.

I think Watchmen has enough of a built-in audience for them to do a huge Blu-ray/DVD release. The graphic novel has been a bestseller for decades.

The fanbase for Watchmen is much bigger than that of Speed Racer.

Yes, nothing at all.

If you skipped over Tales Of The Black Freighter or Under The Hood (or any of the other supplementary stuff for that matter) you definitely missed out on the overall experience of Watchmen. Tales Of The Black Freighter was fantastic as it mirrored what was going on in the 'real world' and was yet another look at the strength and weakness of mankind.

All the other supplementary stuff serves to further explain what is going on presently and what has taken place in the past. If you just gloss or skip over that stuff, you really do miss a lot of stuff.

Re: Zack Snyder talks Watchmen

I remember the first time I read Watchmen, back in 2006, I was confused as to what Under The Hood and Tales of The Black Freighter were. Under The Hood was an awesome insight into the backstory for Watchmen's already unraveling history, while Black Freighter was an intense and crazed parallel tale to Watchmen's under the guise of comic being read in that moment.

I really wonder what's it critical worth will be? Will it parallel the comic's greatness or will it merely be a good flick at it's best? Brings a very interesting thought as to whether an adaptation of the most unwanted comic to be adapted now being adapted and will it be what the fans never thought possible? Personally I'm very very hopeful that it can at least be a coherent piece that makes you think and/or entertain you with just it's visual storytelling.

So you guys are hinting at the fact that... well there's a damn good likelihood that this movie is going to suck?

I've never read any of the stuff.

But I'm getting the idea that there's too much to make into a movie?

It's worse than that--Rorschach uses an Ikea butcher knife.

I don't disagree that Watchmen has it's own built-in-audience. But Warner has done stupider things. If the movie tanks, I wouldn't think it's beneath them to just say "F' it" to a bigger release and just release it bare bones in August.

Doubtful but not unheard of.

I don't know. In some ways I think NOT reading it before the movie might be a benefit because one can go in without prejudice and one can have an open mind. I have no doubt hardcore and extremely anal fans will be pissing and moaning hours after it opens but that doesn't mean it won't still be a decent flick.

This is just to get some money out of those die-hard fans (myself included) that want to see it right after seeing the movie and not have to wait months for the DVD release.

At that rate that promises are made but seem to be never kept as far as home video releases go, I'm wary that some sort of Ultimate Edition will come out, let alone within a year.

Maybe if he uses a Potato Peeler everybody will think it's brilliant.

I see what you're saying, but this seems to have been the plan all along. Snyder has said repeatedly that he there is going to be the movie and then Black Freighter and that for the DVD release they are going to edit them together. I mean, I don't even see why it would be that hard to do for a DVD, considering the fact that both will have already been made and it will just be a matter of the editing process.

I'll be VERY surprised if they don't release such a DVD.

He looks nude in the nude scenes he had from the comic. And yes his penis will be visible...

Did you want to compare rear ends or something?

Based on the pics and vids I've seen they follow what he has on...or off...in the book. But I could be wrong.

Or little blue twigs and berries.

Well I bit the bullet last week and gave in to the hype. Bought it... and loving it! I forget where I left off, but I think it was around chapter 5 of Hollis Mason's memoirs. I didn't think it would live up to the massive hype, but I'm impressed.

For someone like me that knows nothing about the comic the trailors are making it look really poor. Not one thing in the trailor has me excited to see this.

But I will probably go anyway to see what all the fuss is about.

Be prepared for disappointment.
