There should be a rule that when a song is used in a movie (especially a popular one) that it should be hands off for any other movie, forever.

There was an article about over-use of certain songs in movies that I read a while ago which laid this out very well, purposing new rules - I'll try to find it and post here.

I wonder to what degree these songs will be used. It's the score I'm more interested (and worried) about. Tyler Bates, the same guy that did Snyder's soundtracks for Dawn of the Dead and 300, got the nod. Hopefully it won't sound as harsh (or as a blindly obvious to action on the screen) as 300's score was.

I've never thought about the score actually but on the watchmen site they have different background music for each character bio you select..some of it may be part of the film..

Personally I am all for them not getting the rights to ever release the Batman show. It was crap, plain and simple and the comic book medium suffered for it for atleast two decades because of it. I don't think some of you ever collected comics during the seventies or eighties. Even People who know a thing or two about the industry have admitted that it was a burden for years to break that stereotype. Conversations with non-comic book collectors usually went something like this...
"So, you collect comics, huh?"

"yes I do, why?"

"Aren't comics for kids?"

"No, there not. They are a creative way literature is read. Mostly original stories, but you have many classic novels serialized also. Classics such as 'Rudyard Kiplings the Jungle Book', 'Treasure Island', 'Dracula' or even '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea'. Original stories or creations like Batman(1989) are starting to be turned into movies."

"Yeah, I thought that movie was supposed to be like the show. I took my kids to see it, and it was so dark and violent. The Joker wasn't even a clown, he was a murdering psychopath."

"The movie was supposed to be more like the comic book, hence being grim and gritty. It had just as much violence as the show, it just didn't have WHAM, BAM, BOOM, following a punch to a villian. If you remember the show, the villians were always putting civilians in jeopardy. Comics aren't just for kids."

That was a conversation or something similiar I had with a woman I worked back at my first job(16 years old in '89). Didn't she see the trailers for the movie, Didn't she understand that PG-13 has a hell of alot more adult themes, than your standard PG movie. It all goes back to that stupid show. I hope the further away in time we get from it, the less kids grow up without it the better.

Ditto...if anything, the show destroyed the "truer" image of Batman.

At the same time, Batman's popularity was severely waning until the the TV show gave it a huge jumpstart. If that show hadn't "ruined" the character for decades Batman might not have the current high profile it has and films like The Dark Knight might have never happened.

As good as Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen are, they also pushed the comics themselves into a very dark area because the thing too many people took away from them wasn't that they were good stories, it's that they were dark stories. As a result characters that were originally aimed at children were co-opted to cater to a decreasing, aging fanbase.

This is hypocritical for me to say, since I am a nearly 30-year-old man who still reads a ton of superhero comics, but I wish there was a better way to transition younger comic readers to more grown up stories as they age.

There are plenty of great, mature comics out there, I just think Marvel and DC has gotten too focused on holding onto readers and not attracting younger ones.

My guess is because the singer is a comic fan and writer. I found a clip of it on Youtube. Not good sounding.

He certainly wrote a great mini-series: Umbrella Academy

Same here. My copy from Amazon arrived in the mail yesterday. I was going to start it last night, but forgot that "Life on Mars" was on. TONIGHT I'll get to it.

Just make sure if you're a first time reader: don't skip over the couple pages of text to end each chapter---aka "Under the Hood".

I actually feel like there's something off with her in that outfit, but she does look better with her hair in a ponytail. Actually, she kind of looks like Charlize Theron in that pic.

We got in the final poster at our theater today. Pretty nifty.
