Oh please? The terrible Spidey CGI has been a problem since the first movie. You telling me this little thing thing couldn't be fixed in two years? Especially after all the the incredible CGI work that has been done in movies recently? Sony doesn't realize that their own effect house sucks balls. Why not get outside help from someone good like WETA or ILM?

Newsflash. CGI will NEVER look as human as you want it to be. It can't and it won't. There are too many subtleties to the human physique that will never be duplicated by any supercomputer. My point is to just accept it, enjoy the movie and move on.
As for WETA or ILM, they have proven that they haven't gotten this thing down pat yet too. Even I can admit that.

Gollum, though as close to human he comes, is still a creature that doesn't follow the movements of your typical normal human. In recreating spidey for CGI it is a lot more complicated to trick the eye for him than it is for gollum.
two different ball parks and you have to admit, LOTR suffered a lot of noticeable cgi that wasn't gollum based and was focus points of the other human/elf characters.

Yeah, you really can't compare Gollum with CG humans. WETA did a pretty bad job with CG humans throughout the trilogy. I see way too much Matrix Reloaded Burly Brawl bashing. People act like it's the bottom of the barrel. While it's far from being realistic, it's pretty much at the top in terms of CG human animation. The characters and their movements were much more realistic and fluid than anything else that we've seen so far.
I think that the most impressive human CG character in film is Dr. Sid from the Final Fantasy movie.

You know, I love the LOTR films with a passion and I adore every bit of them but Gollum only looked photoreal 60% of the time. Though that's a good percentage, it leaves a whole 40% where he looked meh and downright terrible (the scene by the stream in TTT is a clear example of this). And the same goes for Shelob. That doesn't take away from the fact that they mostly looked great but they are far from perfect. And, like a previous poster stated, CG will never look perfect. It will keep improving and do much to blur the line of fantasy and reality but it will never do away with it. We'll always notice the difference, even if only in a subtle manner.
That said, the new CG Spidey looks great. i should know since I saw the new trailer today when I went to see Hellboy. It holds up well on the big screen. Not perfect but damn good and that's all I ask.

The spidey costume has change...brighter red and blue. I think this really draws out the 'cartoon-ish' look. I don't care, I'm going to love this movie. Also the CGI isn't finished yet...so expect some CGI tuning. I'm guessing that the spider-man CGI work will greatly improve by June. What did you think of Doc Ock? The arms look amazing! Lovin' it!
What I'm really looking forward for is to see the Harry Osborne relationship...Can't wait until Harry dons the green goblin mask...errrr..helmet ;-) The story looks to be better than spidey 1

Ugh, i just knew we'd hear quips about the CGI and someone proclaiming how great Gollum is. Personally, i thought Gollum looked pretty shotty half the time in Return of the King. Spider-Man looks great to me... not perfect, but pretty damn good, particularly in action. Matrix wasn't perfect, Hulk wasn't perfect, and Spider-Man 2 isn't perfect. But i still think all of them worked great in their respective movies.
Oh, and i don't see how a Venom story arc wouldn't work. Maybe not for Raimi.... if thats the case, i can't wait for another director to take the reigns.

They can easily omit the Secret Wars much as was done in the animated series on Fox. The problem is that Raimi doesn't like the character of Venom. So, despite the fact that I like what he's doing in this movie (and only makes me more anxious for the third), I too hope he bows out after the third so we can see another director's take on Spidey and see how they'd translate Venom to the screen.

Thing about this is, You've already been told the full story for years and years through the comics. I don't think they are banking on folks coming into this fresh more then they are banking on those who are coming into this for the action and to see it on the big screen being told to them.

Yes, people have been told the full story for years through the comics, but this movie isn't telling the full story. Its just telling part of the story. The trailer seems to give away alot of this movie. I can see how someone might be disappointed in the amount of storyline revealed.
On the other hand, the point of the trailer is to get people excited about the movie, and make them want to see it. It certainly accomplished this with me. In fact Im glad they told this much in the trailer. Its a welcome relief from 2 second flashes of unrelated action that tells you nothing of the movie.

I just finished downloading this trailer (I wanted to burn it to a VCD) and it's not the same one I saw before Hellboy. It's similar but reveals a lot more of the plot than the one I saw and has a whole lot more dialoge. That said, in the one I saw, instead of Harry talking about Dr. Oktavious, we see the doctor handling that fire ball looking thing and saying something to the effect of "behold a new energy source". That's the most dialoge there was in the trailer I saw, aside from Peter's voice over which is pretty much the same in both trailers.
BTW, am I the only one that thinks that Venom could have easily been set up in a very subtle manner in this film? We got JJ's son who's an astronaut (and I'm sure is the person under the mask when Harry pulls it off) and this "new energy source" Doc Ock was presenting that could easly be of non-Earthly origins. Just have a little scene of something coming off that flaming rock and then nothing more about it. Easy setup for Venom without the Secret Wars and without taking away from the main conflicts in this film. Again, too bad Raimi dislikes Venom.

Anyway, I thought that Spidey 2 would probably suck, but this trailer looks really good. Sony execs had such hard-ons after the first test screening (numbers through the roof!) that they immediately set the wheels in motion for Spidey 3 (2006) AND 4 (2008 or 2009).
Fun stuff. I hope it lives up to the hype.
