- I thought Bill Murray deserved the best actor award, since it will be awhile before he may get another chance
I agree, but Penn desereved it as well. It was the toughest call of the night. Oh well. Hopefully this provides some one else to use murray and have the academy acknowledge it.

I'm sure that if he did any dramatical role this year it would be tossed in and given a great amount of consideration for next year as the typical trend goes.

Who was the hot girl that hosted the pre-show with the other two guys? She was wearing a dress full of diamonds or something like that.

I absolutely cannot believe that they included Leni Riefenstahl in their tribute reel. Disgusting. The only consolation is that most people stopped applauding once they realized who they were clapping for.

That would be former Channel One news anchor Maria Menounos. You're very right , she was damn hot.

How come no one is bitching about Theron's blubbery crying like they bitched about Halle Barry's Crying? I submit that theron's performance in MONSTER was 75% MAKE UP and weight gain.

You halle haters are a bunch of 2 faced assclowns.

Theron is the second African-American to win the award. It's old new now.

was anyone else saddened by the fact that apparently when they waxed off Theron's eyebrows for Monster, they never grew back? >< (imo, she is one of the most beautiful actresses to have ever graced a big screen, but last night she looked absolutely horrible! she and Peter Jackson must have had the same hair stylist...ugh!)

i was pleased with the awards, mostly. for a few of them however, i wish there would have been more of a nod to some of the other nominations. Pirates for make-up, Belleville for music, etc., but ROTK and Jackson's team were deserving of everything they received.

Hated to see Penn get the Actor, but i do think that out of the nominees, this years performance by Penn was his best, and i couldn't honestly say that about the others. i don't feel that any of them were robbed, as Crowe was against Denzel previously.

I should have made the distinction that I felt he overracted in "Mystic River" I thought he did a great job in both the movies you mentioned.

Penn is actually part of a mini retrospect at the AFI this month with screenings of "21 Grams", "Mystic River", "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", "Sweet and Lowdown", "Carlito's Way", and "The Falcon and the Snowman" (which I hope to catch a screening of).

Jackson's wife Fran didn't look all that either IMO, she looked she got attacked by a tree or something.

that's a really sad and simple minded response to a female director who had a flawed personality and history, but has made some of cinema's most important films of their time.

Did anyone else find the awards tremendously boring to watch...okay, they are always a little boring in parts, but the middle two hours were tremendously sleep-inducing.

What happened to Crystal's usual "zingers"? I think he told about 10 jokes after his opening monologue through the end of the show. The "What are they thinking" bit seemed totally ad-libbed...and didn't Billy rip that off from someone else that hosted the Oscars (did Steve Martin do this last year? It seemed familiar.)

Since there were no surprises from the awards and no memorable speeches of note - it was up to Crystal to add some "ooomph" into the show...but I thought this was his poorest year as host.

And did the Lord of the Rings guys get screwed with those seats or what?! They were back by the exit doors! I don't remember Jim Cameron having to sit so far away when Titanic got its 11 trophies!

There were a few bright spots:

Will Ferrell and Jack Black's "You're boring" song.

The joy on the faces of Nic Cage and Francis Ford Coppola when Sophia won

Adrien Brody going for the breath spray right before he announced the Best Actress winner (thank god Keisha didn't win...Brody would have looked like a pervert!)

I also QUITE enjoyed the few minutes right before the show started when the guy (forget his name!) was questioning all the people in their seats...you could really tell who the "nice" stars were and who the "jerks" were from his walking around talking to people. For example, Oprah seemed really pissed she was being made fun of, while Johnny Depp came off as a true gentleman...even calling Keisha back to him after the cameras were finished with the bit.

Frankly, I felt this was one of the most disappointing awards shows I've seen in a while.

Right off the bat, I'm not a LOTR fan. But, I won't deny it awards like Director or Picture--I'm sure it deserved them. I certainly wouldn't have picked them, but the movies just aren't to my taste.

To me, it really seemed that they were just giving LOTR all the awards, almost for the hell of it. For example, Original Song--Alison Kraus with 'You Will Be My Ain True Love' was so much better and more deserving. Not to mention Belleville Rendez-vous.

Cinematography was robbed--City of God should have won that.

I thought both Robbins' and Penn's performances were poor, and neither should have won. Penn, of course, should have been nominated for 21 Grams in the first place.

Animated Feature was robbed from Triplets of Belleville. Yes, Finding Nemo was fantastic, but it really only represented more of the same from Pixar (not that that's a bad thing, it's really good). Triplets, though, was something new and unique, that I felt truly deserved to be recognized.

The only award of the night that I remember actively agreeing with was Sofia for Original Screenplay.

No doubt Keisha will play Depp's love interest in 5 or 6 years.

the title song performance was only the burst of energy to an already sleep-inducing Oscars show.

CIty of God should have won for Best Foriegn film.

as for Triplets...the award isn't for the newest and most unique feature...its for the best. And it was recognized, by virtue of its nomination....
