Re: The Room (spoon!)
Netflix's DVD rental has the disc available to rent. Plans start at $4.99/month:
https://dvd.netflix.com/Movie/The-Room/70114944

I was tempted to buy it since it was only 11.03 on Amazon, but I'm not sure if it is something I'd want to own, so renting it works better for me.

I started watching this and it is pretty awful. Quick question, though, is Tommy W. the cause for the memes or text ramblings that involve "Oh, hai INSERT name," etc.?
He tends to say "Oh, hai" a lot.

That seven second clip is probably some of the worst acting I have ever seen...no way could I get through this; not even for comedic purposes.

WHAT? You guys really need to see this. And The Disaster Artist.
The film industry is so focused on deconstructing cinematic technique. It's really hot right now to flip a moment upside down and have a character say, "well that is stupid" (damn you Joss Whedon). The Room is a completely unaware filmmaking experience and they did their best to make a movie. It is an authentic "shut up and shoot" movie - in the spirit of El Mariachi, Clerks, and Pink Flamingos. Completely watchable and enjoyable ... if not for the intended reasons.
Surprised Tommy hasn't attempted to make another movie, or gone to work for an outsider like Troma.

Re: The Room (spoon!)
Tommy hasn't been overly prolific since the Room, but he has kept busy. Best F(r)iends isn't the easiest picture to see -- and it's certainly doesn't achieve Room levels of oddness -- but the sequel's already in post-production, apparently.
My guess, though, is that Tommy's other "business" endeavors probably keep him flush with enough cash that he can indulge his movie dreams as he pleases, and I'd imagine Sestero still gets handsome royalties from his book. Furthermore, Wiseau's decision to keep the DVD of The Room priced comparatively low (often down to about $8.50, at least before the Disaster Artist became a thing) was a wise one that allows him to keep Amazon consistently supplied with stock.

For example, one of my favorite things that happens is that people don't shut the outside door when they come in to the apartment. Like...a lot. To the point where I cannot believe someone on set didn't raise their hand and go "shouldn't he shut the door?" The front door is just wide open throughout an entire scene.
I used to work in corporate video production and a company paid us $5000 to digitally remove the wrong brand of ketchup bottle from a training video. That attention to detail vs. The Room is shocking.

I was finally able to get this from Netflix's dvd rental service. I wanted to watch it before I watched The Disaster Artist. I watched it today and it's awful. Horrible writing and acting. If you had a drink every time a character said "I don't know", you would probably die of alcohol poisoning. I don't know if you can make a worse movie than this... 0/5

Tommy Wiseau . . . commercial pitchman. For real.
The spot is apparently by (company investor) Ryan Reynolds’ marketing agency.

"Oh Hi Coffee"
The theater that used to do the midnight showings of "The Room" closed down during the pandemic and it sucks. I loved going to see that movie with a huge crowd.

The subtitle font is also the same outdated-even-then 'Revue' font that he used for the logo of THE ROOM. Also thought the laptop wallpaper was inspired.
