Two pages and nobody's mentioned The Bishop's Wife? A classic in my household.

I can't believe for the first page and a half, the only Christmas Carol that gets a mention is George C. Scott's version. Yes, it's a classic to me (I've been obsessed with the "franchise" since I was 3 or 4), but the 1951 version is THE Christmas Carol, IMO. Sim is evil and kind all without having to do much more than slightly raise his voice, where as Scott had to scream and honestly, I felt he was a little too passive during some parts. I mean, yeah Scrooge is a mean, old guy, but he showed fear when Marley was making his first appearance. Scott almost played it off completely during the entire scene.

I can't stand the Ghost of Christmas Present in the Scott version, either. The spirit is supposed to be a kind and gentle soul, so why is it that in the Scott version, he often comes off as more of a jerk than Scrooge, himself?

To me, just about everything in the 1951 version is superior, whether it be music, settings, actors, or scripts. My one complaint and one admitted edge that the 1984 version has is that Tiny Tim in the Sim version is awful. As an actor, he isn't terrible, but he's almost as tall as the grown-ups. Tiny Tim needs to be a puny little guy, which is exactly what they got for the Scott version. The one in the Sim version just looks like a healthy kid with a crutch.

To sum everything up, I've got a soft spot for any Christmas Carol adaptation, as I simply love the story, but in my eyes (and in the eyes of many) the 1951 version continues to be the superior adapatation as time goes on.

Christmas Story and NL Christmas Vacation

I know those aren't original picks, but those are the ones.

I really want to see Bad Santa, maybe it'll make next years list!
