What are some of your favorite Holiday DVDs?
The Santa Clause would have been on my list, unfortunately Disney decided to cut out a scene that was on the laserdisc. :(
I would also like to get the Muppet Christmas stuff, but they are Pan 'N' Scam, so they won't be joining my shelves any time soon. I just picked up White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life and Scrooged at Best Buy's 3 for $30 sale (ended last week.) I've had Ernest Saves Christmas, A Miracle on 34th Street (original,) and The Nightmare Before Christmas for a while. I am planning to grab A Christmas Story from Warner Bros "buy 2 get 1 free" deal, and I picked up Casablanca and Space Jam for the "buy 2" part. Now that they finally have widescreen National Lampoon "Vacation" movies, I will grab the box set at some point, and get Christmas Vacation with that. At some point, I would like to get The Santa Clause II, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (live action and animated,) Santa Claus: The Movie, the Charlie Brown Holiday Specials box, A Christmas Carol (with Patrick Stewart, then there is the George C. Scott or Henry Winkler versions) and maybe some of the old Rankin-Bass stuff. What other Christmas DVDs are out, and what are some of your favorites? |
Jingle All the Way with Schwartzenegger and Sinbad. I didn't expect much from this movie, but was I ever surprised by the shear silliness of it. One of my favorites. No extras to speak of, but it's the movie.
Miracle on 34th Street (Remake) A Christmas Story - love the new special edition Nightmare Before Christmas (I watch it throughout the holiday season, from Halloween through the New Year) |
Scrooged is my all-time favorite.
A great holiday film that seems to have been forgotten about is "Santa Claus" starring Dudley Moore. He played this elf who built toys that begin to fall apart on children all over the world. He leaves the north pole in shame, and starts to work for an evil toy conglomerate. I don't remember much beyond that, other than flying dust, candy canes which make children fly, and John Lithgow as the villian. |
"Die Hard" is not your average Christmas movie, but it is my personnel favorite. "Gremlins" is a great Christmas-time movie & you cannot let Christmas go by without watching the annimated "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at least once! :D

We have a few that we traditionally watch together:
Our all-time favorites are National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story. We also enjoy A Charlie Brown Christmas and It's A Wonderful Life. One DVD that is OOP (I believe) but worth getting your hands on is Carols from Kings which is carol music from King's College in England. The voices of the boy/men choirs are terrific and it is a gorgeous hall for a performance. The audio comes with a DTS track and if you crank it you will swear you are there. |

A Christmas Story is on its way from DDD.

The only Christmas DVDs I have are The Nightmare Before Christmas and the animated How The Grinch Stole Christmas. I'm not a big fan of holiday movies except for Halloween.

Well, here's what I got and I love 'em all . . .
- A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott . . . the only A Christmas Carol :D ) - A Christmas Story (20th Anniversary Special Edition) - Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey) - Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas (w/ Horton Hears A Who!) - Home Alone - It's A Wonderful Life (Original Uncut Version) - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (Special Edition) - The Nightmare Before Christmas (Special Edition) - Rankin/Bass 3-Disc Gift Collection * Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (w/ The Little Drummer iBoy) * Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer * Frosty The Snowman (w/ Frosty Returns) - The Santa Clause - Saturday Night Live: Christmas - Scrooge - Scrooged - The Snowman/Father Christmas - White Christmas - The Year Without A Santa Claus (w/ Rudolph's Shiny New Year & Nestor The Long-Eared Donkey) I want Miracle On 34th Street (the original . . . screw that remake . . . :D ), but I am having trouble bringing myself to buy it, since it is FF only . . . :( Additionally, there is one Christmas movie that, unfortunately, can still only be enjoyed on VHS, but it is well worth it (if you can find it . . . it's been OOP for quite some time). It is A Child's Christmas In Wales and it is one of the most touching, heartwarming, make-you-wish-you-were-a-kid-again, Christmas movies of all times. If you can get your hands on it, I HIGHLY recommend it. Another good "VHS-only" movie is The Night They Saved Christmas . . . almost made me start believing in "him" again . . . :D |
that reminds me...Psycho Santa/Satan Claus, the SE, is due on Tuesday.
