Dreading the Last Samurai?

Is anyone else dreading The Last Samurai?

I'm so freakin' tired of the trailer. I feel like it's been attached to the last 20 movies I saw.

Can't STAND Cruise's hubrisy laugh in the dinner scene.

Can't STAND the thought of Tom Cruise being named Best Actor for this role.

Am I alone here?

I think it looks great. Eager to see it. Sure it's been advertised a lot but I don't let that affect my interest in a movie one way or another.

I am not all that eager to see this one. The trailer doesn't do much for me.

My expectations are relatively low. If it turns out more interesting than just "Dances with Samurais" I'd be pleased.

I'm dreading another DVDTalk thread where people slam a movie they haven't even seen. Oh no! I'm already there.

You said it.
I've actually enjoyed most all of Ed Zwick's flicks, so I remain optimistic.

" In the heart of one man, lives the soul of a warrior ".

This will be THE film of December. Looks long, tragic, and full of good battle scenes. Plus, Crusie seems to be playing a fatalistic person with shell shock syndrome. I really want to see what he does with this role.

I liked: Glory & Courage Under Fire, and heard Legends of the Fall was good.

The Siege was horrible. But, I think this movie looks good.

I guess I've seen a different trailer than the guy who started this thread. The trailer looks AMAZING to me. I've had the original one sheet up & framed in my apartment for quite a while.

And Cruise is NOT Japanese in the movie as someone pointed out. The movie has a solid director & cast. I've become a huge Cruise fan over the years & really feel he has grown as an actor. He's been in seclusion for almost 2 years training for this movie which I can respect & anything Samurai related is my favorite. Movie looks phenonmenal & I can't wait for it.

Legends of the Fall was unadulterated crap.

Glory was a very good film, however.

At least TLS has Billy Connolly. Maybe he'll teach the Japanese warriors that "and shepherds we shall be, for thee my Lord for thee, Power hath descended forth from thy hand..." prayer.

I looks like it might be an alright movie, but, yes, that trailer is getting really annoying as I've seen it in front of the last 7 moives I've been to.

Why "dread" it?

If it doesn't look good to you, don't see it. That's what trailers are for.

I think it looks like it might be ok. I'll see it if word of mouth is fairly positive.

I want to see it, but good Lord, it has one of the most derivative trailers (and, from what I've seen and read so far, storylines) I've ever seen.

I want Samurai action, dammit! I want TOP SHOGUN!

Yes, I'm sure they're loking forward to its huge Box Office RETURNs, since, OF all THE movies coming out this December, Last Samurai looks the most ass-kicKING.

I much more dread "Cat In The Hat" and the whirlwind of advertising tie-ins... Because when I think home cleaning products, I think Dr. Seuss.

I love it how we get intelligent responses like "How stupid are Warner Brothers!? They cast Tom Cruise as a Japanese guy. What idiots!!" He's not supposed to be Japanese.

While I'm not going to name call, that is how I felt when I saw that reply along with some others here (the CT,HD post). The movie is an ode to Kuresawa & I sure as hell would rather a mainstream movie try to emulate vintage Kurosawa than things like The Cat & the Hat or another Tomb Raider movie.

It may very well be a good film. But Ed Zwick's track record is extremely uneven. I only really like Courage Under Fire. But that was a Roshamon rip off so maybe his Seven Samurai rip off will be okay too.

It doesn't help that the trailer makes it look like the worst kind of derivitive crapola.
