Clever kitty!

I'll watch it...even though I can't stand Tom Cruise, and I thought Legends of the Fall was ghastly - unlikeable people doing stupid, illogical things...(and it was too long). I wouldn't ever "dread" a movie, but as stated before, it's easy to hate the inevitable marketing campaign that goes along with it... Cat in the Hat, I'm looking at you...

Let's see, I think that covers it; oh yeah Tom Cruise isn't supposed to be Japanese and Billy Connolly is hilarious...

.....exactly my thoughts. Could not have said it any better Groucho!!

I dread all the pundits that have recently flooded the forum and seem to put the final verdict on a film they not only haven't seen yet but hardly even know anything about the production at all.

Like it or not Tom Cruise is a great actor with a record that speaks for itself. Furthermore, not all samurai movies have to be made by Kurosawa!!

Now...., since I dont want to be tagged as a "pundit" either all I have to say is-

I CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE IT. The trailer looks great!!

Cheers!

I'm dreading another thread where oldies condemn the thread-discussers for "badmouthing a film they haven't seen yet", when all they're saying is that it looks bad so far... oh, wait...

I can't say the film will be bad or not but I know that from the trailer footage I have zero interest in seeing this film.

Cruise is a pretty good actor but even his drawing power couldn't draw me in enough to pay for a ticket.

I wasn't talking about box office. I was talking about Last Samurai being the best movie of December. Certainly better than that childrens' film you just mentioned.

As I love films about Samurai, I am looking forward to this. Yes, it seems like Dances with Wolves, but I think there will probably be enough differences. Besides, any film with swordfighting is game for my money.

I've been looking forward to The Last Samurai ever since I saw the first trailer months ago. I think I'm looking forward to this movie more than any other movie this year.

Cruise > Frodo
Finding Nemo and Pirates Of The Carribean were two of the most entertaining films I saw this year, and I've seen nothing to dissuade me from watching ROTK... seems the kids' films are kick-ass lately, wouldn't you agree? Of course you would.

(I think this is the first time in this thread someone has said that one film, sight unseen, is CERTAINLY BETTER than another film, sight unseen! )

I say I'm "dreading" this film because I don't like Tom Cruise, but know that I won't be able to stay away, even if the reviews are great, because it coudl be an Academy film adn I wanna see all hte potential contenders.

The trailer, IMO, is bad because it gives you a full snapshot of the entire plotline. Master & Commander was great in this way because 90% of the trailer footage was in teh first 30 mins. of the film.

Children's film? lol, I'll be laughin when Jackson's kiddie flick wipes the floor with Samurai and shoves a shiny gold oscar up Cruise's overinflated a**. The only movie next month I see as being real competition for King is Tim Burton's wonderful new Big Fish, which I saw last week.

Well . . . I think Tom is a good actor, but it seems like he has a hard time slipping into different character types. So many of his characters seem the same, even if they are in very different styes of movies. I think that he has done well mostly because he has been cast and directed well. His "pretty boy" looks haven't hurt him either.

Children's film? I certainly hope you aren't taking any kids that you might have to see it . . . talk about nightmares just waiting to happen . . .

I think that TLS will be good, but I'm not anticipating great . . . hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised. I'm hoping that the story is written well . . . Zwick seems to do as well as he can with the material that he is given (e.g. - Glory - great story, strong cast, great movie . . . Legends Of The Fall - weak story, strong cast, week movie . . .). I still anticipate that ROTK will be the bigger and better of the two movies, but we'll just have to wait to see.

I still can't believe Sean called Return Of The King a children's movie . . .

(am I to assume that you're implying that Big Fish will do better than Last Samurai in December....???)

RotK isnt a childrens film. It will prolly make more $ than tLS... and it will probably be a better film (if its anywhere close to TTT). I am not a big fan of Tom Cruise either. All of that said, I want to see tLS as it looks pretty good and the pieces of the plot laid out by the trailer look interesting.

How can you dread a movie?

If it doesn't appeal to you, DON'T SEE IT. Save your worries for more important matters, like paying the bills.
