So, when the DVD comes out, which boxset will it be in? both?

Oh well, im still buying th Alien Quadrology and I already own the latest version of Predator.

Unless this gets great reviews, I will most likely only waste $4 on a rental (maybe not even that if the reviews are terrible).

Am I the only person who thought Event Horizon was f$%ing awesome?!?!?!? Come on, Sam Neill, Larry Fishburne, ship from hell, stranded in space, what could be better?
I'm going to hold off on bashing AvP to pieces until I see it!!!

I totally hate, despite, loathe...

....Mr. Paul WS Anderson. Not only did he direct the manure-pile Soldier and the pure-dung Resident Evil but the worst thing of all.....HE IS GOING OUT WITH MILLA JOVOVICH!!!!

That's what kills me too. The first two Alien films are two of my all time favorite movies, hands down. I NEVER liked the idea of this King Kong vs Godzilla style gimmick flick. I didn't even like the comics. The fact that they turned down the idea of Cameron-produced Scott-directed Alien 5, something which could have restored the intelligence and craft to the Alien franchise, in favor of making some crapfest like this, really blows my mind.

I'll confess to having enjoyed "Resident Evil", and even the first 2/3 of "Event Horizon", so I'm not as big of an Anderson hater as most are. But I just don't understand why they thought this would make a good movie.

of course, it will probably make a zillion bucks, so nobody cares what I think.

perhaps the predators are the dominant species in the galaxy and they have millions of planets to hunt on... earths ticket only comes up every thousand, but predators are hunting/becoming mature yearly/constantly.

Aliens worked without ever knowning where they came from.
unquestionably this is part of their scary nature... they seem to have no past or home... their only purpose is to kill and make lil aliens. sorta like intergalactic great white sharks that arent confined to water. lol!

Predaotr worked with the basic facts that it's a hunting party out collecting trophies and they have high standards of honor. no need to tell what they do when they get home or how there social life works.
do we really need to see 2 hours of Mrs. Predator vacuuming and washing Mr. Predator's socks? lol!

However, I totally agree that it'd be stupid. Especially in Antarctica. It's well established that Predators like hot climates. Last I checked, it's cold up there.
though Im not a fan of the idea either, it does make sense... what better place to test a beings "man hood" than to put them in an environment they DONT like? pretty much standard to tribal becoming-a-man cultures. I mean, the tribe Manute Bol was from had to go out in the bush and hunt a lion with a spear. Deep in the african bush filled with lions is not an environment men "like"... which is exactly why they send them there.

One of my big hesitations about the supposed plot is that, logically, there would only be a handful of people up in Antarctica (certainly <30)
perhaps the aliens got aboard a ship of siginificant size and population, took it over, and therefore brought a decent population with them... and crashed landed in the antarctic. a "derilict space craft". I agree that the colony planet is a much easier approach to take... but perhaps the fact that alien 1-3 (dont even remember the details of 4, lol) basically pitted small groups of humans faaaar from earth/help against the alien(s)made the idea of just doing that again seem too repetitive? i dunno.

Some interesting Aliens v Predator info from the set...

JoBlo of www.joblo.com was invited to the set of AvP according to www.bloody-disgusting.com and he writes about it in this article

Some points fom his site. Some new some old

1. More practical effects, less CGI!

2. No radical changes in the designs of both creatures

Good to know, now we only have to worry about whether the script sucks or not, and hope that Paul Anderson doesn't screw it up.

One part of the plot that I find interesting (revealed in the article) is that:
Spoiler:
Lance Henriksen is apparently playing the future founder of the Weyland Co. and the physical model for the Bishop androids

I'm trying not to get my hopes up... but this does sound promising. Especially the news about Lance Henriksen. I too hope that the script doesn't suck and that Paul Anderson doesn't screw it up.

I love how Shemp just gave away what was in the spoiler tags.

Wait! I pointed it out! Crap!

Well, apart from the fact that the most untalented, unimaginative hack that has ever cursed cinema is behind this, the more traditional look and feel is a definite, definite plus.

I understand, however, that there will be cgi. And, if it's anything like the cgi that "the most untalented, unimaginative hack that has ever cursed cinema" has used in his previous films, it'll be frighteningly obvious and superfluous.

Fingers crossed though...

Apparently I'm the only guy on here that think Paul WS Anderson is a not-so-bad director. I'm looking forward to the movie at least its not directed by Rush Hour Ratner.

Actually looking at his list of movies I like most of them on there. There wasn't really anything ground breaking about any of them, but they were enjoyable.

PWSA isn't a great director by any stretch, but he delivers the goods. "Resident Evil" and "Event Horizon" were both solid B-movies with slick, big budget veneers.

I expect the same from AvP. I also expect to enjoy AvP more than either "Alien3" or "Resurrection."

haven't seen EH, but i did enjoy RE for what it was.
i hold out little hope for this film simply because the premise (based on the title alone) doesn't seem to have a lot of room for imagination.
if it is going to be a literal VS. that implies some sort of conflict between the two creatures-
this is akin to seeing Spider-man fight the Green Goblin in a power ranger suit, without even the benefit of having them be able to talk to each other or the audience.
there is nothing in the two characters that is relatable.

relateable human characters are needed and those characters need to have conflicts for this to be interesting.
unless the Predetors suddenly start communicating with humans...

I'm assuming you don't know anything about the AvP legend. There have been comics and video games based on this premise and they've been quite succesful. Basically it takes the Alien setting, which is humans wanting to study aliens, aliens wanting to kill humans. Then Predators are added and the humans want to study them too, while the Predators want to hunt the aliens. So it just becomes a huge 3 way battle - at least, that's the way it was in the games, and I'm hoping it's that way for the movie.

Crack, Paul Anderson (TMUUHTHECC) is writing an original story (original insofar as the story isn't based officially on anything). The whole "AvP Legend" which you're obviously a fan of might not even feature in the film, at least not in the main plot.

Of course, I'm assuming there too.

A Behind the Scenes featurette for the film can be found here:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/avp/

In it, PA describes much of the concept and plot, using pre-production art, since no footage had actually been shot yet.

As far as plot goes:
Spoiler:
The Predators were the ancient Aztec's gods, and helped them build the pyramids. The Predators used the Earth as a "proving ground," where coming-of-age Predators proved their manhood by fighting Aliens on the pyramids on Earth.

Ahem, so the film starts in present day, or very near future. Humans find a pyramid in Antartica. In it, they find long dormant Aliens, as well as encounting Predators who have come to Earth to use the pyramid.

Granted, I haven't read the script, but from what I've read of the plot and concept, this film could very well be worse than Alien Resurrection and Predator 2 combined.

I don't care how bad this movie is..it will still be cool to see Alien's and Predator's on screen together.

But, I also think Alien Ressurrection and Predator 2 are fun movies..so what do I know.

If nothing else, this will be a visual treat. Why they made it a prequel to everything else I'll never know.

Im thinking maybe doing it in space will just make it look like a rehash of the previous films.
