how many humans fought them in hand-to-hand combat?

Really? Many would say those films buried the franchises.

I meant the original movies are still great, despite those as I misunderstood Fink Pish's post and thought he meant AvP was going to ruin the old movies for him (see above posts).

Indeed the franchises are dead and I don't expect to see another decent Alien or Predator flick (see above post again).

So far the best one to one with a predator has been Arnold vs the original one. Danny glover doesn't count since he had the blade. Arnold got his ass handed to him

As for the raping the childhood comment, it was a joke.. see I'm relating this to star wars to make a joke. ha ha. funny, don't you think?

The franchise has survived and this simply adds a beginning to the whole "company" back story of the other alien films.

I love the Alien and Predator franchises. Even though Predator 2, Alien 3-4 weren't particularily good, I still enjoyed them -- though 4 is really a downer.

However, that fight scene, the plotline, and previews have not looked particularily good. It seems that Anderson doesn't quite get the way the two species relate to each other. The basis of the movie is, or at least should be, that the predators seed the aliens so that they can fight them for sport. Stocking the pond in other words.

The predators are more intelligent, advanced, and organized than the aliens (I'd imagine), so handling a small group normally wouldn't be a problem. The problem comes in numbers which gives the advantage to the alien -- like ants, they just throw numbers at you until the threat is gone; sacrifice for the good of the colony and all that.

So, one on one battles aren't terribly compelling. In the fight scene, when it didn't look like Godzilla, I 1) knew the predator would win and 2) figured he'd just pull out a gun or spear and blow the alien away. He didn't and chose to pull some wrestling moves on him instead. Not thrilling, scary, or terribly entertaining.

Oh well, what do you expect. They made a movie that they must have figured would make X dollars based on name recognition alone and decided they wouldn't bother putting effort into telling a good story. That's the problem, they essentially gave up any hope of making something good and put their hopes into making something that would be profitable. Playing in safe might not lose you money (though this might), but it probably won't make you a bunch either.

And, under 90 minutes? Wow.

hee hee. You know, I agree with you. I may bitch about halle, but I atleast take this film for what it is... a fanboy fest of two franchises that us cheeto loving freaks have been drooling to see for years. The fight wasn't so bad. Who's to say that it isn't one on a hundred later in the film. Predators know how to Isolate their kills. Look at Predator 1. the crew was taken apart 1 by 1. Meaning the predator lured them away by themselves for a true hunt.

I don't mind the suit, it looked fairly decent and Lara, jesus, it's fake. It's an alien and a predator. Meaning they don't exist. Meaning that when you see them fight it isn't something you normally see or would be familiar with so you can't judge or base your view on what it should look like or what wouldn't make it look "pathetic" because you have no knowledge on how it is suppose to look like.

Whole lot of bitching over nothing. if it's not the pg-13 rating it's the director, if it's not the director it's the story, if it's not the story then it's the lack of cgi, if it's the lack of cgi then it's the suits and if it was to much cgi it would be that.

IT'S A POPCORN FLICK. STORY ASIDE, IT WILL BE ENTERTAINING IF YOU ALLOW IT TO BE WHAT IT IS.

there, said it.

For some reason the Predator just doesn't look as cool as in the original Schwarzenegger flick. In that one it was sleeker, more feminine looking and the outfit wasn't all one dull shade of silver. This one looks like a buffed-up bodybuilder buried in 50 pounds of plates. Anyone agree?

Funny that you mention it, I thought the same thing. That Predator is indeed pretty big boned. I guess even Predators go on juice.

Mmmm. Feminine Predator Vs Feminine Alien jello wrestling. I think we have the next movie

I think this will open to big numbers($40 million weekend) then tail off rapidly.

By the way I have seen both a Predator in person and an Alien in person and they actually do look like guys in rubber suits. Who would have known

Yeah....but that's because:

Stan Winston wasn't involved with the Creature/FX for this film.

No one can top Kevin Peter Hall's stature and performance from the original and the sequel.

The damn predator in this film doesn't even move like KPH did!

Well, the effects look fine to me. I mean, if I was going to nitpick it looking like a suit, I'd never be able to watch the first Alien again. Cause there's nothing in the newer movies that looks as fake as some of that stuff. But again, seams in effects never bother me much.

The scene looks ok enough, but not enough to get excited. At 90 minutes, there's probably no story. And since WS wrote it, even if there is a story I know it isn't any good. And with him as director, well, I doubt it's really any good. And since Fox cut it down to pg-13 we won't even get any cool death scenes. God...I'm actualy debating watching this at all. Especially after a few of the early reviews I've read. It's just so ...disapointing. But...hopefully it makes money so Fox will maybe, just maybe, properly revive these franchises.

Just a note...will someone PLEASE stop giving these interesting franchises to Paul Anderson? Resident Evil, AVP. Why can't Paul just take over for Uwe Boll, and have Boll be his assistant? I mean...if Paul was in charge of Bloodrayne I prolly wouldn't care.

It's not just you. The entire time I was watching it, I was thinking that they threw the Rock in a predator suit. That fight looked ridiculous.

Technically?

NONE of the movies had the same Predator. They all had their unique qualities.

i.e. When Predator 2 came out the people who made it made a point of noting that the one in P2 was younger than the one in the 1st movie.

Yup, and they also made it a point to have the Predator 2 Predator be more wreckless in a sense. more daring to actually go into the city while the other was just in the jungle.

another thing. If you notice the aliens from the franchise have changed in just about every film they have been in. From Gigers look to James cameron's look and so forth. they have all went through a series of changes that you never really could point your finger and say... Ooh no, that's not MY alien. But they all maintained that sort of alien look enough that you really couldn't tell the difference.

If there is one thing to complain about that clip, it's that the alien didn't pop like a roach the moment it went hitting that wall. The way Aliens taught us about those whacky xenomorphs is that they sure pop easy.

Giant, I was commenting on the poster who said the Predator in the new clip didnt move like Kevin Peter Hall in the first 2 films, to which I replied it isnt the same one so mimicry isnt necessary. And for all the haters, what movie did the Predators back flip and somersault over his victims that people seem to have some misconception the character was agile, he's a brute in both movies.

Swinging and jumping around from tree to tree and building to building seems pretty agile to me....

Anyone else expecting Michael Buffer to show up at the beginning of that scene?

All I saw was a character falling through some bushes when he was cloaked and climbing down a tree while hugging it, did u see any finesse when he was beating down Arnold?
