It looked like 2 guys in rubber suits for most of the fight
People were bitching about a possible CGI filled film and were happy at one point to have it 2 guys in rubber suits. So what's the problem now?

Jackskeleton 08-05-04 11:47 AM

We already knew that it was going to be rubber suits and animatronics for the most part and we were all happy that they weren't going down the route of CGI.

TylerDurden_73 08-05-04 12:06 PM

Matbe we'll get a R-rated cut for DVD. One can only hope the movie is good, and worthy of a R-rated release

Cardiac161 08-05-04 12:13 PM

At less than 90 mins, this movie is starting to feel like Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

No decent plot, not enough budget, not much talent as a director, mixing in all the good points in the past films as a rehash, made just to milk every drop of the franchise.

Lara Means 08-05-04 12:42 PM

That fight clip was pathetic. I dont know how the hell anyone can say this film looks good.

guywall 08-05-04 01:04 PM

one on one? Why not 100 on 100? If a couple of humans can hold their own against tons of aliens, why couldn't predator handle more?

Fok 08-05-04 01:10 PM

Looks okay, maybe they should of used some CG. I'm guessing the Preditors would win, don't they use weapons?

riley_dude 08-05-04 01:10 PM

The rating doesnt bother me it's the rock sountrack playing during the commercials that does.

Giantrobo 08-05-04 01:21 PM

Oh my god! Some of you guys bitch about everything! If it's CGI you bitch...if it's rubber suits....you bitch. You're never happy. What can Hollywood do to make you happy?

What happened to going to the moives, realizing it's -FAKE- and still sitting back to enjoy a couple hours of escapism????!?!?!?!

That was a great fight scene and I hope the rest of the movie kicks as much ass.

I think a lot of people don't realize that non-CGI special effects don't automatically equal good special effects.

I don't care how something's done it just has to look good to me. There's great CGI and great costume/makeup/minatures etc. and crappy effects with each method. It just depends on how well done they are.

Jackskeleton 08-05-04 02:14 PM

You know when I wont bitch about it Giant? When it's predator vs alien vs Halle berry. :o :o :o :o :o x1000

:o

hee hee. You know, I agree with you. I may bitch about halle, but I atleast take this film for what it is... a fanboy fest of two franchises that us cheeto loving freaks have been drooling to see for years. The fight wasn't so bad. Who's to say that it isn't one on a hundred later in the film. Predators know how to Isolate their kills. Look at Predator 1. the crew was taken apart 1 by 1. Meaning the predator lured them away by themselves for a true hunt.

I don't mind the suit, it looked fairly decent and Lara, jesus, it's fake. It's an alien and a predator. Meaning they don't exist. Meaning that when you see them fight it isn't something you normally see or would be familiar with so you can't judge or base your view on what it should look like or what wouldn't make it look "pathetic" because you have no knowledge on how it is suppose to look like.

Whole lot of bitching over nothing. if it's not the pg-13 rating it's the director, if it's not the director it's the story, if it's not the story then it's the lack of cgi, if it's the lack of cgi then it's the suits and if it was to much cgi it would be that.

IT'S A POPCORN FLICK. STORY ASIDE, IT WILL BE ENTERTAINING IF YOU ALLOW IT TO BE WHAT IT IS.

:p there, said it.

That being said, I don't think this is necessarily true:

Nonetheless, I'm still going to see it. My expectations are a bit lower than they first were, but I'm hoping it's a good time anyway.

I'd have prefered CGI, especially after watching that clip, which certainly reaffirmed my decision to wait and rent the DVD.

This board has nothing on the AICN talkbacks where those whiny asses all keep saying they arent going to see this when they know they will and the other bitches have the audacity to say theyd only see it if it got gushing reviews, which proves what lemmings they are. Im down for the ride, I loved all the Alien movies and the first Predator rocked and the Predator himself was the only cool thing in pt.2. To be honest, I dont know what people are expecting from this movie, especially a VS movie which is basically made to set up fight scenes, thats it, lets be honest, this movie wouldnt have been made if the individual movies in each series were huge hits. I like the way the Predator and Alien moved, especially the little CG I think I saw for the Alien. For those complaining about the way the Predator moved, which movie did you see where the guy was doing backflips and somesaulting over people, this guy moves the same way the others did in both parts.

To clarify my reasons for not seeing it, I was never that interested to begin with as I'm not a huge fan of either franchise. I love Alien and Aliens. Alien 3 was allright, Resurrection was terrible. But that said I didn't like them enough to double dip and buy the Quadrilogy or the single movie releases as I bough The Alien Legacy when it first came out.

Predator was merely ok, and I didn't like the 2nd one much at all.

Add in Anderson who I've hated every film I've seen of his except Event Horizon which was decent, and I had very little interest.

Then came the PG-13 movie for a vs. movie based on 6 R-rated movies which further killed my interest.

And then...

...which is totally true, and if all the fight scenes look as bad to me as that clip then my one remaining possible reason for wanting to see it (kick ass action scenes) are removed.

Jackskeleton 08-05-04 03:10 PM

I think I just set myself up for failure. I mean damn.. Now I have this idea of a drooling alien snarling it's double mouth across the room there is a predator making his little predator cricket noise slowly getting out his blade and you hear the targetting system noise.. and then across the room you have halle berry proclaiming that she is busting the gates of "VS" films. And then they all go at it at the same time.

Can the predator and alien be enough to handle that monster of an ego. :o

Now that.. my friends, would be one hell of a good VS film.

FinkPish 08-05-04 03:17 PM

The best part of the Alien and Predator franchises was the fact that you really never got a good look at either creature. That was the scary part, it was only seen in brief glimpses and flashes, only rarely seen full in the screen. Your imagination filled in the gaps and made it more frightening. The fact that they are treating the creatures like this is completely ruining the franchises, for me.

Jackskeleton 08-05-04 03:24 PM

Dont tell me.. Paul Anderson is raping your childhood?

ok. Yes, the two franchises had worked off never fully showing you the full monty of them. Hell, for the longest time I didn't realize the alien had that huge gap in it's mouth on the side. But in the decade and some change since they have been around there has been many different versions of them and the merchindising has over stated what exactly they look like and how they look like in the eyes of different visionaries. Since then we have fully accepted how they look like. :p It's just seeing them move against each other is not something we are used to.

How's it ruining the franchise? I think that's a perfectly valid reason to not see AvP, but it in no way alters the quality of the existing movies.

Jackskeleton 08-05-04 03:31 PM

Exactly josh.

For me, Alien3 didn't ruin the first two. it was it's own beast and I have choosen to ignore it completely. Still love the first two films the same.

I'm not speaking to the past movies, I'm more worried about the future of the franchises. The past movies are what they are, good, bad or other. I'm not stupid enough to think that seeing a new movie is going to taint my enjoyment of an existing movie.

My point is this: this movie doesn't look good to me. If it is not good, and doesn't make money, that would tend to jeopardize the continuation of the series, at least for a good while.

Well the franchises have survived Alien3, Resurrection and Predator 2, so I doubt this will kill either of them.

However, in terms of quality movies, I think both franchises died over a decade ago. I'm certainly not expecting another decent flick in either in the future.

I never said anything about raping childhoods, thanks though. Read my response to Josh's post, and you'll see what I was talking about.

My point about keeping the Alien and Predator creatures in the dark, literally, was that that is what makes an effective horror movie; never fully seeing the creature makes it that much more scary. In this movie, they are apparently having full-on hand to hand fighting scenes between the creatures, completely destroying any fear of them lurking the shadows. If this fiilm had been slanted more towards the humans' perspective, of them stuck in this underground chamber and having to fight their way around the Aliens and Predators, I think that would have been a better way to handle it. Based on this footage and the trailers, it looks like it is just a blast-em and run movie.

No, I completely agree, I'm just saying this seems to be pushing both franchises in the wrong direction. The studio seems happy to make these crap films for a smaller and smaller budget, thus ensuring they will make money, and continue to make crap films.
