I refuse to watch anything by micheal moore, roman polaski (sp?), and the director of jeepers creepers (who I just found out about the whole child boy thing).

I thought seriously about boycotting films with tim robbins, surandon, martin sheen, george clooney (because of his comments making fun of charlton heston's alzheimer's), and other outspoken liberals because of their hardlined stance against our president. But then I realized that would be cinematically ignorant.

Roman Polanski (duh).

Spike Lee. The guy couldn't make a good film if his life depended on it, and I can't stand the little, racist creep.

No. I could easily watch a double feature of, say, Klute and True Grit, for example.
None. For example, I'm fairly liberal, and own a bunch of John Wayne and Charlton Heston movies.

Its funny how I read about people boycotting liberals but not so many people boycotting conservatives. You know why? Cause conservatives don't run their mouths. Those people in Hollywood need to keep their opinions to themselves. Democrat, Republican I don't care just don't be preaching to me.

Not to mention you'd have to include Viggo Mortensen, and that would mean no LOTR.

I have to agree with lesterlong on this point. While I do think
there are a few more conservatives speaking out, I think the
media are looking for them and asking the questions to bring out
their views. It does seem as though Liberals are more vocal with
some being shove-it-down-your-throat types.

Some of my favorite actors aer becoming harder to watch. After
an actor becomes 'A' list your pretty much going to see Mel Gibson
in such and such or Bruce Willis in that film or George
Clooney as so and so. But when (for example) Clooney says
some of the bone headed things he's said, it makes it harder to
want to see him as someone else. While I'll still go see a
movie that has Clooney, Robbins, and the like the repeat viewing
(aka dvd buying) doesn't happen. Robbins has seriously hampered
my ability to enjoy Shawshank Redemption, and I used to love
watching Out of Sight but now due to Clooneys comments I have
no desire to see it again. Yet having said that, I will see Oceans
12 when it comes out.

I don't read because books kill trees.
I don't watch movies because they are made by filthy rich people and there are starving children in the world.

I think it's just because conservatives are reactionary by definition. A conservative is much more likely to boycott a movie due to an actor or filmmaker's political viewpoints than a liberal is. Liberals generally don't have the reactionary anger that causes people to react to someone else's opinions in this way.

That said, DVD Talk seems to be populated by more conservatives than liberals, so that's also probably one of the reasons why you're seeing a skew in this thread.

You're wrong on that assumption. Easy examples include Charlton Heston, Mel Gibson and Arnold S (at least on certain issues), but there have been many others through the years.

People in the spotlight should speak their mind.
That's assuming they have one.

nope, those actors will support something they believe in, but they don't slam others for their views and don't run their mouths like robbins, surandon, sheen etc. Actors do not have the intelligence about political/world views to say that one way is right or wrong. Sure, they absolutely have the freedom and right to express their opinions, but when the more liberal actors slam a president and call him names or whatever it goes beyond their personal opinions and beliefs. The conservative actors have common sense to realize that they aren't briefed on these issues to come out and try to get people behind them on it...so yeah, i was rambling and in a hurry and i'm not sure if this all made sense.

Is anyone astonished how many hot-tempered blowhards we have here at DVDTalk on both sides of the political fence?

And I don't mix art with political agendas, though I am respecting my girlfriend's Heston boycott.

I won't forbid myself from watching a movie just because the star/director/producer is a moron.

But it does make me think twice before handing over cash to support them.

Tim Robbins is the first that comes to mind. Michael Moore is a close second.

Spike Lee, all he does is bitch & moan about everything, even if it is none of his business he will stick his nose in. Oh, he also makes crappy movies.

I'm amazed that nobody's mentioned Jane Fonda. I can't bring myself to watch her movies, sorry.

I tacitly mentioned her, by bringing up Klute. Barbarella is good for a laugh, too. Actually many of her movies from the late 60's and early 70's are quite good. They just don't get remembered much any more.

yeah, my dad was in vietnam, so yo ucould imagine how I feel and especially how he feels about Fonda.

Also, Oliver Stone is not cool. I don't like his movies much and he gets waaaaay too political and seems to be a prick about it a lot.

It's easier to boycott conservatives because THEY HAVE NO TALENT.

Charlton Hesston? It's painful to watch him chew scenery. He's like Shatner without the irony.

Ahnuld? He hasn't done anything worth watching since "Terminator." "Junior," anyone? He's pregnent for Christsakes! I don't even want to see that while I'm flipping channels. "Batman and Robin?" Suckfest.

Bruce Willis? One "Pulp Fiction" for every twenty "Hudson Hawks."

Can't think of anymore offhand.

But personally, I don't care what an actor's beliefs are. Hell, I don't even know what they're saying that pisses people off. I mean, I know eveyone hates Tim Robbins, but I don't know why... and I don't really care. Yeah, I know he said something bad. Very bad. But I don't know what it is. It's like the podium scene in "Police Academy." Same with Spike Lee. I always hear that people seem to despise him for his "beliefs," but I don't really know what, precisely, they are.

BTW, I can't watch anything with Jane Fonda in it, either. Something about just annoys me, and its not what she did during the Vietnam War, either. Can't really be bothered to give a shit about it either way.
