Thanks to my trusty Malata DVD player, I already have season one of this on DVD, and doubt I will watch it on A&E, even to see the season two episodes. The thing that turns me off about the idea of this being on TV in America is it will be cut up, and I think that's a horrible shame. Each episode is a full hour, much like Sopranos. Would you want Sopranos to air on Bravo, for example, with commercial breaks and over fifteen minutes cut out of each episode? I am assuming at least fifteen minutes are cut out of Spooks for American TV.

And I am also bothered they felt a need to change the name of the show, as if American audiences would have difficulty in figuring out Spooks is a British term for spy. Hell, I had that nailed down in the first two minutes of the first episode. Of course, I am bothered they felt a need to change the word "football" to "soccer" when they distributed Bend it Like Beckham to America. Do the Brits do things like this to American shows/movies when they are imported to their country?

When does season two come to DVD? In region two, of course.

Region 1 will be getting the firstseason of this in "Winter"
and it will be released by BBCAmerica. THey advertise it as "seen
on Aand E" however most believe it will be the full original version
as seen on BBC.

It's listed as MI-5: Complete Season 1 on the BBC coming soon release list. Changing the name for the DVD release would most likely hurt sales.

No further details available. Being released by BBC America instead of A&E probably means good things for the extras, and overall design.

I hope this means a series 2 release in R2 at around the same time, but have yet to hear anything--That seems to be the way BBC/BBCA handle their DVD releases.

Edited to add: Huh. Just noticed that the R2 release is actually R1-compatible (probably R0; I just know it plays in my R1-locked DVD-ROM). So if you have a PAL capable display (on a computer, XBOX, something like that), importing is an option if you want the original title.

First, please use spoiler tags if you are going to mention what was in the teaser for 9/2.

I can't think of the last time I was drawn into a show or movie like this!
This weeks episode literally had me on the edge of my chair.
I could feel my heart pounding.
The last 5 minutes made me sweat.
And the ending... speechless.
I need a cigarette.

Damn, this needs to get put out on DVD, and soon!

And this is where the first season ends! Excellent cliffhanger, but one of those that has you screaming at the TV.

I have no cable, I imported the first DVD set, and now I have to rely on fickle relatives to tape next week's episode and ship it to me, so I can know what happens next.

Still better than the original airing, with, like, a year between episodes 6 and 7.

That was intense.

I've only caught the last couple of episode but I wish I would have statred at the beginning. I might have to import the Region 2 set.

Can't wait for next week.

A&E has a marathon of the first six episodes of this excellent series on Monday. 7 AM EST and again immediately following at 1 PM EST. All six episodes thus far, in order.

OMG, I am LOVING this show! That last episode was unbelievable. And if you're an idiot like me (and you watched the previews for next week), you know what happens. This is absolutely no-holds-barred. First that agent in the kitchen and now this? This show needs to be put on DVD fast! Pay the writers double and tell 'em to put out more shows like this.

Yes, next week's episode will be the first episode of season two. There will be at least one more new episode after that. The zap2it article posted on the first or second page of this thread said they'd air only the first eight episodes in a row, but I can't verify that on A&E's site.

The BBC is either approaching the end of, or has just finished airing, the second season. Season 2 is 10 episodes long.

This show is getting very good and interesting. So many angles internal and external to MI-5 are being covered. I heartily recommend it for anyone interested in spy dramas.

It's refreshing to see a show take such chances with it's characters. It makes for a much more interesting drama. To see that these are real people that experience life changing events that aren't resolved in a neat and tidy bow at the end of the hour.

It ended a few weeks ago on a real downer.

I am left wondering if they intend to turn the story around on its head like they did last time but it is difficult to know for sure at this time.

Spoiler:
No, I'm not going to spoil it by citing specifics!

Here's a small blurb about A&E and MI-5:
http://tvguide.com/magazine/robins/030818.asp

And a reminder that MI-5 will be moving timeslots to an hour earlier starting with the next episode.

That's up to BBC, isn't it? Anyway, I know they are showing a new episode on BBC America (next week?). It doesn't say anything about cancellation on the BBC Website.

Oh! I've been watching it on A&E. They're the ones I thought who canceled it.

MI 5 has not been cancelled however it has been moved back
1 hour on Aand E. There are also going directly into the second season (which they did not originally plan to do) which began
Sept 2. This will give us a combined 16 episodes. THe first season DVD will come out this winter from BBCAmerica and shoud contain the complete 55 minite versions shown originally in England. The first season was only 6 episodes. I dont get BBCAmerica, but I dont think it is being broadcast on that network.

Yea, I just went to their site to try to find any info on Spooks or MI-5 and there's no info there on either show. From all indications, they are not showing this program.

The A&E board has had a number of posts about a cancellation, yet nobody mentions where they got the info- no links, no sources, nada. I would venture a guess that's where the rumor started, since NO other place I visit has even hinted at it. So I wouldn't put much credence into A&E pulling it.
And Greg is correct- BBCAmerica does not air the show in any form.
