After finally seeing a clip from the film, it only confirms how much I really, really wish Brad Pitt wasn't in this movie.

Re: Inglorious Bastards - Tarantino's Next Project!
Tarantino should be happy with some of these reviews like this quote from
Mike D’Angelo of The AV Club :
I was never bored by ‘Inglourious Basterds,’ I was never terribly excited by it, either. It was just kind of… there, stuck in second gear, functioning like the longest decent B-movie programmer of all time.”
I mean isn't that what Tarantino aims for, B Movies with bigger budgets and better production values.

From the reviews, it sounds like its classic Tarantino, so I don't get all the bitchin' from critics.
Its exactly what you would expect from him.

petertravers Cannes critics were tough on Quentin's Inglourious Basterds—2 violent, talky and obsessed with movies. Sounds good to me. How about you?

I liked the script more than most (even if Tarantino doesn't know which is the index finger) and expect it to be a fine film.
That said, Pitt's performance in these clips is horrific. I don't know where that accent came from (Tennessee by way of Saskatchewan?), and that creased-brow-and-jutting-jaw look makes me want to take back every kind word I wrote about his performance as Jesse James. From what we've seen, Joe Namath was better in CC & Company.
Landa's character is great, and I like Kruger's work in the second clip. Looking forward to seeing the white Ryan Howard turn vicious on the big screen.

Looking over the cast list and watching the trailer/clips that have become available I'm starting to have second thoughts about this one. The great thing about previous Tarantino films I've enjoyed is that they all had actors with real resonance in them. So when things got far-fetched you had people who could keep it going without costing me my suspension of disbelief.
E.g.
RESERVOIR DOGS: Keitel, Lawrence Tierney (can anyone have more resonance than him--I mean 50 years of film noir right there), Tim Roth and two up-and-comers who had the right stuff: Michael Madsen and Chris Penn.
PULP FICTION: Travolta, Jackson, Willis, plus: Keitel, Roth, Uma, Amanda Plummer, Ving Rhames, and a few others.
JACKIE BROWN: Pam Grier, Robert Forster, Jackson, De Niro, Fonda, Keaton, hello?
KILL BILL: Sonny Chiba, David Carradine, Madsen, Gordon Liu, Michael Parks, not to mention Uma, Lucy, Vivica, Darryl Hannah and a few others.
Who are the comparable actors in INGLOURIOUS? Brad Pitt? Sorry, that's not enough for me. The actors making up the 8 Basterds look pretty soft to me. Not a hard case in the bunch. Unlike DIRTY DOZEN which was packed with actual WWII vets in it--some 22 years after the war.
The only names in the cast that have any resonance for me are Rod Taylor and Cloris Leachman (who really should be playing Frau Blucher!).
At least Castellari's version had ex-marine Bo Svenson and ex-football player Fred Williamson.

I'm excited for the movie. Those clips look great and Brad Pitt's acting is good. I think it fits the film well with the clips that I've seen. Reminds of George Clooney's not so serious characters like in Burn After Reading.

Not letting the reviews bother me, I was completely enticed by the script, an Tarantino's dialogue is always fantastic. I hope it does well, I really do.

Shit! This is horrible horrible news. Weinstein Co./Genius make some of best DVD new releases.
Could be worse I guess. Could have sold to Warner Bros.

If you haven't been following industry news recently, The Weinstein Company is in a lot of financial trouble. Similar to New Line a few years ago, their survival is somewhat dependent on the performance of three big movies this fall: Inglourious Basterds, H2: Halloween 2, and Rob Marshall's Nine. This wouldn't matter much, except that Harvey Weinstein is attempting to get his hands on Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds and cut out 40 minutes of it, according to The Wrap. There have been numerous industry pieces on the TWC situation, but Sharon Waxman's article is the only one that mentions this rumor specifically.

Guess the performance of Grindhouse changed things for Weinstein to try to rape Tarantino's film? If that is true well shit...I'd hate to see Weinstein in Tarantino's presence.

I never thought I'd see them do that to Tarantino....man, what is the world up to now? Well...if he has to end it with them he'd be safe at Universal. I mean who wouldn't want a Tarantino project in their roster?

Well if the Weinsteins edit the film here in the states, regardless of the situation, his cut will end up on Blu-ray from Universal. His cut will most likely stay intact for the rest of the world as Universal is distributing the flick overseas. The Weinsteins have no role in that portion.
I'm going to bet good money that all three films in question from the studio will all be financial disappointments. Don't get me wrong, I want Tarantino to succeed, but it's a little bit of a high concept picture for mainstream audiences. On the other hand, I want H2 to bomb and I hate Rob Marshall.
If the Weinstein go under, who takes control of their library?

Re: Inglorious Bastards - Tarantino's Next Project!
Hopefully somebody who sees that if given a proper release those films under the Weinstein banner will be great investments. Dragon Dynasty for sure needs someone to run them properly...
