Spoiler:
WWII -- Rasputin is helping the Nazi's on a secret weapon project. Think Lovecraftian Elder Gods type of thing. They summon something to Earth, but it doesn't show up where they're expecting. Instead this little kid demon shows up somewhere in England where the US Army finds it. They take him back to the US and he grows up. Investigates weird stuff -- ghosts, zombies, vampires, werewolves, etc.

Lots of cool Lovecraftian influences as well as classic, obscure horror references.

Ahhh, can't give away too much. You might as well just look up the TPB Hellboy: Seed of Destruction. A lot more interesting than me anyhoo.

Problem is: aside from geeks, who else knows who Ron Perlman is?

I see this movie appealing to us net guys and not much beyond the comic audience. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I would rather see this version with Perlman than the proposed version they had starring Vin Diesel in the title role.

Mayor McCheese is in the film too? Is he the villian or something? Oh man, I can't wait to see that battle.

Holy crap Hellboy looks beyond amazing.

I know this thread will be filled with the usual DVD Talk hate-all-things-mainstream-and-special-effect-heavy too cool posters, but I've been preaching the Hellboy movie here since it was first announced. Hellboy is my all-time favorite comic book, I'm a Mignola fanatic as well as a HUGE Guillermo Del Toro fan. Now that the trailer has hit online it is SOOO much better than I thought it would be. Del Toro is by FAR the best young director going right now. He just "gets it", I don't know how else to put it.Tthe special effects even on the poor quality trailer right now looks amazing, the humor & quirkiness of the characters that make the book so unique are just nailed perfectly. Every single character in the movie looks amazing. I'm sorry if I'm gushing so much, it's been a long time since I've been this psyched about a movie.

Now let the bashing begin

Here is the link if you haven't checked it out already. . .

Wow that looks pretty cool. The only problem is some of the cgi looks rather crappy. Other than that

waiting to see a better quicktime trailer, but as it stands -- that rocked!

I posted a link to another trailer breakdown for some of the less obvious shots and references in the other HB thread: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=322353

I may even need to see "The Missing" this weekend.

Looks decent. I still don't really know anything about the character, and i'm not sure that trailer is enough to attract people in the same boat i am.

This article breaks down some of the images and scenes a little better: http://www.countingdown.com/features?feature_id=3264013

Hopefully the details will be clearer large screen.

I hope that del Toro does not add any Blade 2 wrestling scenes...

the trailer looks sweet, I am looking forward to it, I wasn't too impressed with blade 2 or mimic, but based on the trailer alone, which isn't saying much, it looks pretty good

I have never read the comic and barely know anything about the character(only from what i have read in previous posts about this movie). That said, this trailer makes me want to go out and see what i have been missing out on. Can't wait to see the film either!

Also some of the CGI does look kinda bad IMO. I didn't care for the way Del Toro used CGI in Blade II so i'm hoping its nothing like that.

I am naive to all that is "Hellboy" but that trailer looks AWESOME. Certainly piqued my interest.

Count me in as a very interested newbie.

Del Toro is like the next generation of Gilliam.

Looks interesting. I've never read the series. I'll probably wait for the rental though.

I think I heard John Hurt's voice, but didn't see him (EDIT:...oh wait...that Einstein looking dude, is that him? The voice is right, but he doesn't look like him.) That's a big plus in my book. Otherwise, it looks like X-Men III to me.

Looks okay, but the plot seems to be right out of a "Buffy" episode. "They once tried to destroy the world, now they are back." Cut to one of the bad guy's minions bringing him back.

Looks completely juvenile. Should be popular around here. How does this look any better than the Punisher trailer that was bashed up and down a month ago? Bigger guns ? Super-Nazi villains? A Ghostbusters-like-dog monster ?

Is this another "children's movie", like Return Of The King, Sean?
