I bought Casablanca as a blind purchase a year ago since I had never seen it. It's probaly one of the best films of all time. With some incredible performances. There is no reason to remake it. none. And although I like Affleck as an actor, Jennifer Lopez has never been good in anything that didn't have a giant snake as a co-star. This is a bad, bad idea.

I can't believe something like this would actually work out unless they fund it with their own money.
What studio would back this?
Casablanca's probably my favorite movie - the thought of anyone remaking it makes me cringe; the thought of Ben and JLo remaking it... well... that's just downright painful. Red hot pokers kind of torture.

No, I don't like to pre-judge .......BUT this is possibly one of the stupidest ideas yet. Maybe they can go after Rhett and Scarlett next.....
Such arrogance!

I'm not sure who yet, but I know several people must be rolling over in their graves.
This has inspired me, though. New ideas I'm having:
Citizen Kane - starring Matthew Lillard and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
The Wizard of Oz - starring Christina Aguilera and the dog from Frasier.
The Godfather - starring Keanu Reeves as Michael, Vin Diesel as Sonny, and Wayne Knight (Newman from Seinfeld) as Don Corleone.

I agree it's a bad idea, but it's not like there haven't been remakes of Capablanca before this. And I'm not talking about Barbwire, either.
I'd like to think that, after all is said and done, true quality will last and crap will fade away. Psycho, anyone?

Huh? It's a hit and it's not even out?!
re:Casablanca...
Although I didn't enjoy the film, why remake it?
Hollywood really needs to stop remaking any film.

I'm hoping and praying that this isn't true. Casablanca is one of the true masterpieces of cinema, and no sequel or remake could ever top it. If this turns out to be true I will definitely not be seeing it, and I would encourage others to do the same. Supporting stuff like this only encourages more of the same.
