And Ebert said the same thing when reviewing one of the FF movies. Hopefully he can try out a smaller scale movie in the future.

The unofficial "Han" prequel.

Interesting bump. I don't think I've seen this movie since I saw it in theaters 16 years ago.

I'm not a fan of Lin's filmography outside of Better Luck Tomorrow and Star Trek Beyond - and true Detective. I'm not a fan of the F&F films.

In a lot of ways, isn't Better Luck Tomorrow a perfect metaphor for Justin Lin's career? The pressure to be the "model minority" (Lin making "important" films) vs. the desire to be a typical American teenager (making popcorn flicks)

Re: "Better Luck Tomorrow"

I'm happy for Lin, especially to see an Asian American director make it in to Hollywood and get paid well to make big budget movies. It helps that the Fast and the Furious movies, especially the ones he helmed, are right up there as far as just really fun action movies.

Better Luck Tomorrow was pretty good, I owned it on DVD. As a kid from Orange County, a lot of it felt familiar... minus the whole death thing

What's kind of funny/ironic is that in the grand scheme of things, outside of like 1-2 films in each director's filmography - they've done plenty of mediocre films.

Chu did that atrocious GI JOE sequel and that Jem and the Holograms film. Fuck, if anything, I'd give the edge to Lin just for Better Luck Tomorrow alone.
