Well... it's certainly ugly, but it could work within the story.
While the Batmobiles have always been super-awesome looking cars, I always wondered why he'd want something so friggin' long, aspecially when he's trying to turn corners and dart down alleys...

"This is the vehicle that's described in the Goyer script. This is The Tumbler, built as a bridging vehicle for the military, then never used. Goyer describes it the first time we see it as "a cross between a Lamborghini Countach and a Humvee. Sandy camouflage, stealthangled panelling and variable-angle flaps across the back." It can do a rampless jump at 100 mph. It was built by the Applied Research branch of Wayne Corp., which is how Bruce Wayne stumbles across it. He modifies it a bit."

Which explains why he needed the grappling hook to make sharp right turns....

Is this supposed to be THE Batmobile? I cannot see that being driven in Gotham, but I can see him using it for another purpose.
Or it could very well be the main car, er, truck, a la DKR.

Looks damn good to me. The design is based around a military vechicle which makes senses as the first draft of the Batmobile.

I like that it's not associating itself with any of the other Batmobiles...

I like it.
I love it.
The initial Batmobile should be utilitarian and functional, not sleek, stylish, and pretty-looking.
You want sleek, stylish, and pretty-looking, go rent Batman and Robin.
You... you don't want to make Satan happy, do you?

Course in Dark Knight Returns, that comic was set several decades after the 1st appearance of Batman and this movie is supposed to be based on Year One.

On the bright side - it is not near as a gay as the last two Batmobiles. The neon lights was a wee-bit to much, if you ask me.. Still, the '89 Batmobile is the single best.
