WARNING: NERD ALERT
However, the Golden Age Batman who lived on Earth-2 (the alternate world where all the original versions of the heroes lived and served as an explanation for oddities such as how Superman was fighting Nazis in the 40s, yet running around in the 60s without aging) married her, but that was all obliterated from existence in 1985 during the "Crisis on Infinite Earths".
END OF NERD ALERT
Batman is different in that he doesn't have a consistent supporting female love interest. Spider-Man has Mary Jane, and before that Gwen Stacy. Superman has always had Lois Lane. I just wish they'd stop tacking on these relationships. The only time it worked was in Returns, but that's because the interaction between the two characters was a logical part of the plot and not some tacked on thing like his romance with Vicki Vale.
However, it's kind of funny that only movie without an important female love interest was the worst one. There was Elle Macpherson in "Batman & Robin" (whose character was actually the first love interest Batman had in the comics), but I think she had maybe 2 short scenes.
Still, I remain optimistic about Batman Begins.

That Wayne desires a romantic life but cannot have it because of his mission is one of the many conflicts that make the Batman character interesting. I don't have a problem with a love sub-plot at all. Unless of course it actually goes somewhere.

Thanks mandrill. That looks awesome!
Are the characters played by Katie Holmes and Morgan Freeman from the comics?

I have read Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns but not Batman: Year One. Would I benefit from reading that before this movie?
If they needed a love interest for the movie, why not Talia, Ras Al Ghul's daughter? Any fan of the comics knows that she and the Dark Knight have quite a history together.

I recommend Year One, although it sounds like Begins will be different enough to be an entirely new entity rather than an adaptation. It devotes an equal amount of time to telling Jim Gordon's first experiences in Gotham that it does to Bruce Wayne's initial foray into crime fighting. Very gritty stuff. DC just released a hardcover edition that is supposed to be really nice. I plan on picking it up at a bookstore very soon.

I know IMDB.com should be taken with a grain of salt, but....
David S. Goyer said that the graphic novels "The Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory" by Joseph Loeb III were a huge influence on his screenplay. When he was asked the question, "What about Frank Miller's “Year One?”", he replied, "Our story is not “Year One.”” An early draft of David Goyer's script leaked onto the Internet long before the film's release.

I think they're probably saving Talia for one of the sequels.
And IMDB is right about this not being Year One at all. It does have elements of The Long Halloween but they are superficial at best. Dunno about Dark Victory as I never read it.
I love this latest trailer! The more I see about this film, the more the wait 'til June 15th becomes unbearable!

Direct downloadable link to the new European trailer:

Check out the ninja to the far right when they take out their swords. I sure hope he doesn't end up in the final cut of the film.

That new trailer kicked my arse! It would easily make my Top 5 Trailers Ever list. Batman Begins can't open soon enough!
I think that's Bruce in training.
