The guy emailed me and started insinuating that once he shipped the typewriter to me, I ought to pay 'some extra' for the shipping, since it was going to cost him so much over the winning bid.

So, we started talking cost, and he thought the typewriter would be about 20 pounds, but once he weighed it, he realized it weighed 50 pounds. The cost to ship was going to be prohibitive. He was very nice about the whole thing, and I didn't want to pay $$$ for shipping, and I felt bad making him pay it also. So, after much talking, we agreed to cancel by mutual agreement.

New update. He just sent me another email.
Talked with a few relatives. We decided to ship you the typewriter anyway. If it was relisted, it would be the sixth time listed. The first five times each got no bids. We almost put it in the dumpster before this last listing, but we all have reservations of throwing away anything that still might have some use to someone. You should get it within a week or so. You are also under no obligation to pay anything for it. We decided to leave that up to your conscience.
Scary. I have an old typewriter. Will post pics when it arrives. This story gets odder and odder.

Have him send the typewriter and agree to the 'some extra'. A box of valuable crayons sounds like 'some extra'.

I love how he says it's "up to your conscience". WHAT?!?!
Still trying to guilt you into it!
I can't believe they didn't just trash it.

Can't wait to find out how much it cost him to ship, especially after "discussing it with other relatives" and saying it weighs FIFTY POUNDS!

That's the funniest idea I've heard yet. Talk about really messing with his head.

I originally bid on the typewriter and went on vacation. I thought $0.50 would've held up, damn.

Funny, funny thread though.

This whole thread is like some sort of Greek epic. You start out as friends laughing at the auctions, only be torn apart by bidding wars. Finally, you realize it is better to work together and stop bidding against each other. Once again you all become friends and are very comical about sharing your loot with each. Then, the world is once again turned upside down when you find out the man that sold you your items is a pervert and may have stuck them up his ass.

The moral of the story? If something is too good to be true, it probably is. Or some internet creep stuck it up his ass. Either one really .

- einTier I will send you the crayons if you wish. It is stupidly obvious they only belong to him. My email is available here. Just send me the address. They should be here soon. Gotta have your address on them. Cannot wait to hear what he says.

Man, I'm afraid to touch this book now. Maybe I'll send it to Abs. He likes opening strange mail.

ok.. so here is what you do..

preacher.. you put the crayons back up on auction
and we will all bid for them and drive the price up to like $100..
and you can send him a link back telling him you sold them again, and see what he says when he sees they are going for $100+

hmmmm.. any way to do this without getting eaten up by ebay fees
