Chanbara Beauty
My Wife is a Gangster 1,2,3
Yo Yo Sexy girl Cop (I have the other yoyo girl movies and this sounds fun)
Ip Man will be Region A and will have English subtitles.

I liked the first "My Wife is a Gangster" and the third one. I didn't really care too much for the second one.

Re: Asian films - Comments/suggestions wanted!

I just watched Chanbara Beauty (a.k.a. The Oneechanbara) the other day. It's the closest thing to a live-action video game I've seen to date. It's a bit like watching someone play a game like Heavenly Sword for 90 mins. The characters even "power up" like in a fighting game. The plot is generic and predictable; you'll be way ahead of the script. A couple of the actresses are easy on the eyes, although the lead girl (the one in the bikini and cowboy hat) mostly stays covered up. I'm kind of sorry I bought it. I'm sure it'll be released in the U.S., though.

Yeah, I'm glad flicks like Tokyo Gore Police, Machine Girl and Meatball Machine are getting low-priced US releases very speedily (in some cases well before the Japanese dvds - US film financing I think) - just wish they came with a few more extras (although Meatball Machine actually had a decent selection). They're fun popcorn flicks - if you can keep it down ;p I guess they might be kinda comparable to Troma (can't recognize bad acting as easily in Japanese) - but for some reason I just find them a lot more palatable.

Wish we could get more subtitled anime anthologies and other special releases though - there've been a number of small Studio 4* collections and anthologies, but pretty much none of them have subs - and the Japanese releases are just so pricey. With yesasia's current coupon deals, I'm going to try bouncing a few orders around to pick up a few more coupons and order Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (US release forthcoming?) and the NGE You are (not) alone release (R3 Korea w/OST) this next week. Just ordered 2 M-flo concert DVDs ($$$ = ouch!) and Dai Nipponjin R3 HK.

Where is the cheapest price to order the GHOST IN THE SHELL 2.0 DVD? Yesasia.com?

$50 from yesasia with free shipping. $53 or thereabouts from cdjapan w/out free shipping. and $42 at amazon.co.jp with $19 shipping and handling (by my calculations) - so yesasia is probably currently the best since R2 Japan is the only edition available.

Have you seen Casshern?

That's the closest to a video game I've ever seen. That movie is so gorgeous that all the plot holes don't even matter.

Well, I was lucky enough to find it for $12 in a Japanese video store today in NYC! Woo Hoo! I haven't watched it yet, but I skimmed through it and the video and audio quality is awesome!

Has anyone seen Ip Man or Legendary Assassin yet?

I was thinking about picking them up at a local shop, but I thought I'd see what people thought of them here

seen ip man. nice film. great fighting and acting. don't expect it to be layered and earnest, but light(ish) and different to most biopics.
