With the current exchange rate, it's difficult not to keep ordering ....

Several U.S. TV shows are actually cheaper (even with shipping) than buying them here, and some of the British shows are steals. Picked up the complete FAWLTY TOWERS for about $15, and the SKINS box set of Series 1 & 2 is cheaper than the U.S. release that is Series 1 only.

My last order:

1 Beefcake [1999] £4.33 1 £4.33
1 Sherlock Holmes - The Defi... £21.72 1 £21.72
Shipped via Royal Mail ---------------------------------------------------------------Subtotal: £26.05
Delivery Charge: £2.68
Total: £28.73

That SHERLOCK HOLMES is the complete 14-film Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce collection, on 7 DVDS, with several commenataries, production notes, and stills.

This is a fantastic set and a steal at that price. As for extras, I'm not sure how they compare to the R1 discs, but several films contain commentary tracks and a full-length Hammer documentary is also included, as is a nice booklet and several postcards. Make sure to watch The Nanny - a genuinely unsettling late-period Bette Davis film.

I second the Hammer set. A lot of the extras are the comparable to the R1 discs or not even available in R1. All are 16x9. The only criticism about the set is the lack of subtitles. This set is a no brainer at this price.

lots of you guys outside the UK are loving the switch on the exchange rate - for about 5 years i got decent prices on USA stuff and now it's abysmally expensive, to the point you can't get items together into packages below £18 to save on postage and avoid the VAT hit. not fair. the risk is that many outside the USA cut back on supporting USA labels, and so do USA folk themselves, so it could play a part in any further losses to the industry over there.

The same could be said about a number of important UK labels, Artificial Eye in particular, that were nearly brought to their knees. This is a good time to catch up on plenty of catalog UK discs.

sure, the reverse is possible too. the extra factor is that the market for obscure and old films is much smaller everywhere else except America (by comparison) so americas gaze going elsewher has more deadly potential, I think... especially with trouble brewing for the USA market long before the exchange rate changed.

Living in Denmark - among the best places to live - during the turmoil of the world financial crisis, I now turn to the UK for my shopping of movies etc. I still look towards the US as well, but not as much. However, since the decline of the British Pound the UK is now extremely favorable over a given DVD title.

Mad Men: Season 1 is a good example of how dirt cheap this title can be optained in the UK over the US version.

Another problem with the set is that some of the original aspect ratios have been changed. She is presented 1.85:1 where it was filmed 2.35:1. Some of the others are presented 1.85:1 but were actually filmed 1.66:1. Optimum is known for their poor adherance to original aspect ratios so this is not a surprise.

Not according to the Blu-ray region info site; doesn't sound like they have forced subs, either. I've been wanting to find a widescreen copy of the Bear for a very long time, but this is even better.

They canceled the dvd I wanted most from My order. Looks like I wont be getting the Lars Von Trier's E-Trilogy - Element Of Crime / Epidemic / Europa now. Terrible news. I would have loved to have had that set.

A lot of Tartan titles are going out of print. I would try placing another order for it as Amazon UK sometimes gets them back in stock in limited quantities. It is still up for order so you never know.

I just placed an order containing a few Tartan titles from Amazon UK, a couple of which weren't being carried by them a week ago (supposedly OOP). Hopefully they will all ship.

Jaymole, is that an Artificial Eye sale? I noticed that several of their titles seem to be heavily discounted, but not all of them. I didn't see a banner on Amazon.

I keep all my wants in my basket (saved for later). When something is reduced Amazon posts a notice above my basket. I saw a ton of notices above my basket yesterday morning so I guessed there had to be a sale. Many of them were Artificial Eye & Tartan releases. Had to really cut down as there were over 50 items reduced that I wanted. I told myself that I would buy the Russ Meyer set as soon as its reduced, but it didn't make the cut as my order was so expensive as it was.

Were the discs in this set packaged in regular keepcases or slimcases? Did any of them come loose and get scratched in transit? Thanks.
