Hey Giles, could you tell me why you ordered the UK Blu-ray of The Thing rather than the US version? Is there added features that are not on the US Blu-ray?

Thanks!

yes, the US edition of 'The Thing' is missing some of the extras that the import has, here's what's on the UK edition:

'The Thing' will come on a BD-50 featuring 2.35:1 1080p video accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. Extras for this release include:

U-Control Picture in Picture track with cast and crew interviews and behind-the-scenes footage
Commentary with director John Carpenter and actor Kurt Russell
John Carpenter's The Thing: Terror Takes Shape
Production Background Archive
Cast Production Photographs
Production Art and Storyboards
Location Design
Production Archives
The Saucer
The Blairmonster
Outtakes
Post Production
Theatrical Trailer

the UK bluray is NOT region locked

A few years ago, I was buying Korean dvds left and right, with nary a disappointment among them. But that all dried up as for whatever reason the Korean film industry kept repeating itself with diminishing returns.

Enter The Chaser, the new Korean flick that, while not a huge departure from what made them special, will knock your socks clean off - great fucking flick and I heartily recommend it's R3 dvd.

NoirFan, any particular reason why you preferred the MoC Mizoguchi release to the Eclipse's "Lost Women"? So far I see only two of them in your list and I may suspect you had already bought the others before the Eclipse release.

The second film paired with Sansho Dayu, Gion Bayashi, is exclusive to the MoC edition. Four of the other six Mizoguchi films in the MoC double feature series are exclusive to R2 as well - Oyu-Sama, Yohiki, Chikamatsu Monogatari and Uwasa No Nonna. The Moc edition of Akasen chitai (Street of Shame) also includes a commentary track.

Wow, congrats on having all of the Masters of Cinema. I had The Savage Innocents but ended up trading it away after watching a polar bear massacre. I have Mad Detective on Blu-ray and since their numbering them from #1 maybe I'll collect them.

I usually don't post in this thread, because it kind of feels like bragging. However, I have gotten some great ideas for stuff to order, so in case it helps someone else:

Last shipment from Amazon.co.uk:
Torchwood Series 1&2 (Xmas gift)
The Sharpe Classic Collection (to replace my US edition)
The Glass Key (1942 film noir not available in Region 1)
Howard the Duck (gag gift ordered before I found out about the pending R1 release)
Beasts (Nigel Kneale horror series)
Dark Angel (aka I Come in Peace, guilty pleasure not in R1)
Judex/Nuits Rouges [Masters of Cinema]

November 1st order from Amazon.co.uk:
Bulldog Drummond Double Bill : Deadlier Than The Male / Some Girls Do
Tiger On The Beat (Hong Kong Legends)
Doctor Who - The Invasion (much cheaper than the US edition is going for)
Dead Set [2008] (excellent UK zombie series)
This Land Is Mine (great Charles Laughton WWII propaganda film)
Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars (Hong Kong Legends)

October's order from DDD House:
Swordsman II
Red Sun (Digital Remastered Edition) (1972)
Mad Detective
Man Called Tiger The (Fortune Star) (1973)
Red Cliff (DVD Part 1) (Hong Kong Version)
Breaking News

You should check out The Blue Dahlia, another inexpensive R2-only Universal noir also starring Ladd and Lake.

I hope you listened to the fun and informative commentary before trading it. Did you keep your Naked Prey DVD? That has some animal slaughter on it, IIRC. Doesn't one of the natives emerge from an elephant?

Wow, congrats on having all of the Masters of Cinema.
I don't own any of the titles that have identical or superior R1 equivalents, like F is For Fake or Nightmare Alley. The two MoC Teshigara discs have commentaries but inferior transfers to the Criterions. If they're ever 50% off, I might bite.

Yeah, it and Kiss Me Deadly (OOP in R1) are in my Saved For Late basket. Kiss Me Deadly jumped up a pound since I placed it there, but still a bargain at £3.97.

Yikes, I haven't watched that movie yet. Actually no I didn't listen to the commentary on The Savage Innocents. I like Nicholas Ray and all, but I couldn't stomach the animal hunting scenes. I could watch Salo again, The Savage Innocents not so much.
