Or not. The Hut has been canceling all orders for these sets with some bullshit about a lack of inventory. Instead of honoring a price mistake, they feed you a line about inventory? Sounds like a page from the CD Wow customer service playbook. Dollars to donuts all five of these Arrow sets magically appear in stock again in a couple of weeks.

Re: What Have You Ordered Recently? Part 7

From AMAZON UK:

Total for this order: £80.02 (includes 10.01 S/H)

1 "The Apu Trilogy"
Kanu Bannerjee; DVD; £19.11

1 "Wild River [1960]"
Montgomery Clift; DVD; £3.46

1 "One From The Heart [1982]"
Nastassja Kinski; DVD; £3.98

1 "King Lear"
Paul Scofield; DVD; £3.45

1 "Rancho Notorious"
Marlene Dietrich; DVD; £4.33

1 "Picnic At Hanging Rock - Deluxe 3 Disc Edition [1975]"
Rachel Roberts; DVD; £10.41

1 "David Lean Centenary Collection [1942]"
David Lean; DVD; £13.03

1 "Jeeves And Wooster - The Complete Collection [1990]"
Stephen Fry; DVD; £12.24

(With the exchange rate at well under $1.50 per GBP, these are too good to pass up. The Jeeves & Wooster is the Hugh Laurie/Stephen Fry 8-disc set, the David Lean set is 9 discs/movies.
Wild River , Apu Trilogy and Fritz Lang's Rancho Notorious are not available in R1, and One From The Heart is much cheaper than the R1.)

Re: What Have You Ordered Recently? Part 7

Wild River is a keeper - typically standout performance by Clift in a moving, heartfelt film. Nice price on the Apu Trilogy, I paid almost double that. You should look into the two Satyajit Ray triple features from AE as well. Thanks for bringing Rancho Notorious to my attention, I added it to my wish list.

Like several of the AE titles, that's one that gets insanely cheap at Amazon UK from time to time. When I bought it on December 14, 2005 it was £8.49. Looking at that same order Werckmeister Harmonies / Damnation was £7.63 as was Father And Son.

Re: What Have You Ordered Recently? Part 7

From Network:

1 x Doctor on the Box = £45.95 (LWT sit-coms based on the books that the Dirk Bogarde movies -- Doctor in the House, Doctor at Sea, etc., were based on. 137 episodes on 20 discs!)

1 x Tales of the Unexpected The Complete Series = £45.95 (19 discs, includes the American-made episodes that the R1 sets don't include)

1 x Ghost Squad The Complete Series = £25.53 (10 discs, semi-forgotten ITC police/Scotland Yard series from 1962)

With the pound hovering around $1.37, I couldn't pass these up...

Re: What Have You Ordered Recently? Part 7

All from Amazon. I managed to pick up the Rohmer set for a decent price, somewhat making up for The Hut's shenanigans.

The Eric Rohmer Collection - 8 Disc Box Set - £21.20
Rancho Notorious - £4.33
Bruce Weber 5 Disc Boxset [2008] - Let's Get Lost, Chop Suey, A Letter To True, Broken Noses - £42.59
Parade - £12.77 (pre-order)

Re: What Have You Ordered Recently? Part 7

I got laid off - my last day is this Friday - but with my birthday coming up and the crashing pound, I decided to treat myself one last time.

From CD-WOW:
The Man From Hong Kong (R4 with longer cut than the R3 release) - $10.99

From Network:
Scarlet Pimpernel / Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel - £5.10
Monster (AKA I Don't Want to Be Born) - £5.10
Harry's Game The Complete Series - £5.10

Not as classy as some of the other titles listed in the thread, but they will give me something to watch during the long days besides Oprah and commercials for DeVry.

Of course, I just noticed today that BFI is releasing these two as a double-feature disc on 3/30.

I ordered this a few days ago from Network during their 40% off sale. I am still waiting for my order to be shipped (they say there is a backlog due to the # of orders they received). The sale is over but Death of a Bureaucrat is still available on their website for sale so you may want to try and order it from there. Network removes VAT and their shipping fees are similar to Amazon UK.

Here is the order again that I placed from Network:

1 x Vice Versa £3.57
1 x Twinky (finally a decent transfer) £4.08
1 x Man Who Could Work Miracles (The) £4.59
1 x League of Gentlemen (The) Special Edition £5.10
1 x Insignificance £5.10
1 x Bloody Kids £5.10
1 x Ghost Goes West £5.10
1 x All Night Long £5.10
1 x Bulldog Drummond Double Bill £5.10
1 x Death of a Bureaucrat (The)(La Muerte de una Burocrata) £6.63
1 x Voyage of the Damned (The) £4.59
1 x Who Killed Teddy Bear £6.63
1 x Wilt Special Edition £5.10
1 x Very Important Person £3.57
1 x Twins of Evil £5.10

Re: What Have You Ordered Recently? Part 7

Sorry to hear.
Many thanks for the info on Man From Hong Kong - didn't know about the discrepancy among running times. I have the Pimpernel set and it is quite nice - you'll enjoy it.

Right, Jaymole is correct. This is still available from Network - but at regular prices and you'll need to use WorldPay if you aren't in the UK.

Probably should have gone that way. I may still yet eventually, as I have pretty good luck at breaking even on selling R2 discs used when I've picked them up with decent discounts.
