I have to agree, I so wanted this movie to turn the corner and get back on track but it just got more tangled and pretentious. Some truly beautiful images and action pieces but it all really adds up to nothing. Best scenes, what can only be described as Ritchie's take on The Proffesional.

All his work probably starts out like this except instead of spending time doing rewrites he says, "Screw this. I'm gonna go fuck Madonna."

there is no such thing as an ntsc disc. all blank discs are identical. the issue is with the encoding of the media files which cannot easily be corrected. your best bet would be to rig up a tv out from the video card.

This makes you think that is for sure... I thought it was pretty good though. I think that repeated viewings may be in order to figure some stuff out. The transfer on the Russian DVD is fantastic...

Yeah, this film really left me scratching me head (watched it a few days ago). Unfortunately, all said and done, I wasn't as high on it. I'll give Guy Ritchie credit for his ambition in trying for something special but ultimately I was decidedly unimpressed (moreso when compared to Matthew Vaughn's "Layer Cake").

Again, I'll tip my hat to Ritchie for his audacity (and it seems a little unfair that some critics, while slamming (deservedly) the movie, seem to be piling on and slamming Ritchie as well) but I'd call the film - if I were in a generous mood - average at best. I'd say "Revolver" would definitely require multiple viewings - at least for me - to make any sense of it (I mean there was some sense of coherence trying to worm its way through my brain and thereby fully grasp what Ritchie was aiming for but an understanding never quite developed). The problem with all this is, that the film as a whole wasn't that great so the prospect of a repeated viewing isn't exactly that appealing. I'm of the mindset that if viewers are completely befuddled the first time through a film then the director has done something wrong; a film shouldn't be so opaque that an audience has to revisit it multiple times to gain a semblance of understanding in regard to what it was about.

The comments on IMDb are interesting with some slamming the film and others calling it a masterpiece (I just wish some of the supporters of this film would actually take the time to explain it for the rest of us). Comments like "use your brain" people don't really make an impact when one doesn't take the time to support said comment. I didn't get too in-depth into the comments (again because the movie wasn't so hot that my interest level wasn't really there at the time) but maybe when I've got some spare time I'll try reading through all of them to see if there is an intelligent explanation. If any time a film ever needed a DVD director's commentary then "Revolver" is it.

Queston, d2cheer or anyone else, what is the run time of this film. IMDb lists 115 minutes.......I have the Estonian DVD and it came in around 107 minutes (if memory serves me right).......is that the same runtime for the Russian DVD (which I'm assuming the Estonian DVD is ported from)?

Also, anyone with the Estonian DVD, did you find that a couple of lines here and there early on had out-of-sync audio on the DVD?

Flixtime, the Russian DVD clocks in at 1hr and 47 minutes. With the PAL speed up that would probably be right about 115 minutes.

The reason I think I may give it another shot with a repeated viewing is, I had the same problem with Out of Sight, for some reason the first time I saw it, I was scracthing my head about what fit where in the movie. But enjoyed it enough to want to make some sense of it, I am sure it was just me, most people I am sure didn't have a problem with it. I finally got it after I watched it again and now is one of my favorites.

Thanks d2cheer for the info. on the runtime of the Russian disc. I suppose with the PAL speedup and maybe a little bit for company logos and such (that might have appeared on the theater release), we should be good to go for a match to the 115 minute runtime.

I'm in no great hurry but I suppose I'll give "Revolver" another shot but more in the realm of showing it to someone else (as opposed to watching it only by myself). Whenever you decide to watch it again - and if you manage to gain some confident understanding of things - maybe give a post here........I'm curious to read an in-depth explanation of things (I'm guessing that it might actually be open to multiple interpretations). Worst comes to worst, a R1 or UK R2 commentary should help clear things up. I think I'd rather watch it again after being spoon-fed an explanation as to what was going on.
