Guy Ritchie's REVOLVER
I read the Russian DVD was out this week. Anybody pick it up yet?
|
I'm going to stop on the way home from work and pick one up.
|
You're kidding? Already? I might have to track down a copy.
|
where at? any links?
|
|
I tried that link but it doesn't list any shipping prices. Any others?
|
Ordered it Friday from ALLDVD.ca and got it today! WOW, that's the fastest shipping from Canada to the US I've ever seen.

Question: I am unbale to turn off the Russian subtitles on my Malata, but I can on my computer. You can't use the subtitle or audio buttons on the remote. You have to do it through the setup menu, but when I do the samething as I do on my computer on my Malata, the subtitle are still there. No matter what I choose.
Has anyone had this problem before, and was there a solution? |
roseart- can you please post a review about the quality of the picture and sound and stuff when you get a chance? thanks

Pro-B,
AFAIK, this release is absolutely official. You can find more info here http://www.cpdvd.ru/shop.shtml?id=1104 and here http://www.ozon.ru/context/detail/id/2447751/ (it's in russian, sorry). CPDigital is our local movie distributor and DVD publisher. They are nothing to do with piracy. |
As I said before I find it very strange that 99% of ALL recent European productions somehow make it to Russia months before they street in their contries of origin. Not only that but recently I've seen a growing number of classic European titles that somehow (again) appear on the Russian market only weeks after they have been released in France for example (Rene Clement and their products come to mind).
Thank you for providing the links above but I do not speak Russian and can hardly make any sense of what the two sites indicate though I can tell that these are nothing more than simply listings for Revolver in Russian. Either way I would restrain myself from posting in this thread again. Ciao, Pro-B |
That's the wonderful thing about Russian DVDs - since Russia is a corrupt and lawless "developing" country, there is no such difference between official and unofficial dvds.
For example, this is why people don't understand that there is a "real and official" NTSC Region-Free DVD of the Russian blockbuster NIGHT WATCH (NOCHNOI DOZOR) available to buy since late 2004. If you don't understand the way Russia works, people automatically think it's a bootleg - with Russia, things are not black and white...There are bootlegs of this movie, but there is an official, legit manufactured NTSC Region-Free DVD of NIGHT WATCH. Since laws are broken and nonexistant in that country, you will find some pretty sweet and early DVD releases of movies. |
is revolver any good? i've read some pretty crappy reviews
"a cinematic production so bad it makes 2 Fast 2 Furious look like Dekalog-era Kieslowski" "After Revolver, Swept Away now looks like Citizen Kane. Words cannot express how emphatically this film withholds the pleasures of film-going." "how the hell does this talentless cine-hack keep getting work? " |
If you expect something like 'Lock, Stock' or 'Shatch', you'll be disappointed, I think.
There are several good action sequences and, of course, humor, but in the main part this movie is kinda psycho-thriller. And its storyline is very tangled. So, I wait for SE to be released, with a director's comment track. |
I saw this at the Toronto Film Festival and by the last half hour or so I was really tempted to simply walk out.
Ritchie seems to think he's doing something "cerebral" here, but the movie is almost laughably shallow, and pretentious... |
I just finished watching the Russion dvd. Just a warning for those who get it - yes, the Russian subs are burnt in, so you will need to run it through dvd decypter or something like that to remove the subs. That aside, the picture is good, but nothing pristine, but I think it's pretty much in accordance with the intended look. The 5.1 English track is pretty good.
As for the movie, this definitely ranks up there with one of the more stranger movies I've seen in some time. I've always liked Ritchie's previous works, but it seems like each effort is becoming less and less focused. Swept Away is still the worst though. As for Revolver, I wouldn't say there were any intendedly laughable parts in the movie, but there is a level of pretensiousness to this one. It seems like he designed this one to force us to give it repeated viewings in order to get a better coherence to the story itself. There's a shitload of internal dialogue that even for me, it was a bit excessive. And say goodbye to his cool soundtracks that he usually uses, this one is mostly classical. But for you Guy Ritchie/Jason Statham fans, this will keep you somewhat satisfied. That's the only reason why I got this edition. For all others, yes, wait for any kind of SE that has a commentary track so Ritchie can tell us just what the hell he was thinking on this one. |

So...come on people! Get on this problem! :) |
Shallow and pretentious? From someone under Madonna's spell? NO WAY!
Sad, too, as his pre-Madonna work was awesome. |
