So the only advantage of getting the UK set is that it has an extra disc? Can someone go over exactly what the US version WON'T have(speculatively)?

From the main forum:

Here are your options:

R1/R2 (japan)/R3: You get DTS, you get no speed-up, but you only get 3 discs

R2/R4 (Aus): you get 4 discs, you get DTS, but you also get PAL speed-up

R4 (latin america): you get 4 discs, you get no speed-up but as of right now, you also dont get DTS.

Thanks for the quick reply and for not flaming me. I have limited access here at my job so its hard to surf around freely sometimes.

I need to read up more about this PAL Speed Up. I have no idea what that is. I know that NTSC and PAL are different signals but I didnt think it would be a problem.

No prob.

Not to get into a discussion about that here but PAL and NTSC have different frame-rates, PAL being faster. Some people claim not to notice it while others do. All about personal preference.

Bummer man. Not having DTS R4 really killed it. They left space for a DD 5.1 in Portuguese. Fox used to have a DTS track and 2.0 Spanish & English. Now their titles have dd 5.1 English, Spanish & Portuguese. Shame, you get extra content, but the DTS track's worthwhile. Unless you make your own SE case and get the R1 discs w/dts along with the extra content in R4.

Here is a pretty good, easy to understand explanation of PAL speedup:

I am getting both the R1 single disc and the R2/UK 4 disc set, just to cover all my bases.

thankfully there's been some confirmation that these two extras

MTV MOVIE AWARDS TITANIC SKIT (Run Time 4m 21s)
TITANIC (1997) S.E. - EASTER EGG - SNL SKIT WITH BILL PAXTON AND JAMES CAMERON (Run Time 4m 47s)

are easter eggs on the domestic R1 edition.

osdia

I have the R4 (Mexico and Brazil) release of the 4 disc version, it DOES NOT have DTS-ES, but the DD-EX track is very impressive, I consider the packaging better, the only new extra features are only the Heart of The Ocean Special, Trailers and TVSpots.

Anyway the content in the 3 and 4th disc is categorized differently:

Disc 1

--Movie
--3 Commentaries (Cameron, Crew, Historic)
--Behind The Scenes

Disc 2

--Movie
--3 Commentaries (Cameron, Crew, Historic)
--Behind The Scenes
--Alternate Ending
--Video My Heart Will Go On

Disc 3 its not a DVD9 its a DVD5

--Parodies:

- Saturday Night Live
- MTV Movie Awards
- Titanic in 30 seconds and with bunnies

--Deleted Scenes:

40 minutes of Deleted Scenes

Disc 4

--Marketing

- HBO Heart Of The Ocean
- Fox Special Breaking New Ground
- U.S. Trailers
- Featurettes (Actor Focus, Story Focus, Building the Ship, Populating the Ship, Sinking the Ship, Cameron Focus, Deep Dive Focus)
- International Trailers
- UnusedTrailer (In very bad quality)
- TV Spots
- Concept Posters and One Sheets

--Special Features

- News reel 1912 (with commentary by Ed Marsh)
- Construction Timelapse (with commentary by Ed Marsh)
- Deep Dive Presentation (Narrated by Cameron)
- Titanic Crew Video
- Titanic Ship's Tour
- Videomatics
- Visual Effects Breakdowns

--Gallery

Full gallery of scripts, behind the scenes and pictures.

I ended up going with the R2 disc from Amazon UK. just a heads up as well, the price decreased a bit. it is now £15.99 instead of the old £17.99 price which now makes it around 29.48 shipped.

That price cut convinced me to order it.

I cancelled my order. $17.99 for the 3 disc set over at CC was just too good to pass up.

Same here. I can't see myself paying an additional $12 for the extra disc, which I'd probably never get around to watching anyways.

Anyone can recommend a good DVD store in TJ that will stock the four disc set?

Think a store in East LA might carry this? I've noticed a lot of stores in Little Tokyo (deep in LA) carry R2 Imports for rent and sale. I've also stumbled across a couple of tiny stores that deal with Russian, Korean and other communities that offer various import titles to their cliental.

Anyone savy enough to know of an LA connection which deals with titles from across the border?

Failing that, who wants to make a run and smuggle some 4-Disc sets to this side?

399 pesos (35 bucks). I just got the R1, and will be getting the R4. I believe it is R1/R4 for those thatwould like to know. Fox's been doing this for a while now. Their dvd's play both regions coming out of Mexico.
