they probably were confused as to what the actual damage was (for everyone) or probably were confused as to what was being requested from starmax so they added the two issues together and got that confusing mess.

ehonauer 12-20-04 11:47 AM

They're asking for the serial number of your UE, the one stamped in the copper case.

I assume Starmax is asking for this information to avoid duplicate requests - there's only one UE #1799, and Starmax is going to send one set of replacement digipacks for that serial number.

YesAsia confused everybody by saying the serial number is on the digipack.

sofdec 12-20-04 02:00 PM

Yeah, thanks a bunch, I just sent them an email with that subject so hopefully if it hasent gone through in the past, it will now.

fourizonly 12-20-04 02:34 PM

So, if I don't write the subject line in Korean they won't send a reply?

DVDFever 12-20-04 03:16 PM

What do they mean with starmax contact number? I dont have a contact number with them, i sent them an email last week with the replacement form but never received a reply.

I assume they mean a telephone number where you can be reached...

Starmax doesn't send replies to replacement requests, even to ones that go through, unless you ask a specific question. I sent a question via email with an English subject line, no response. I figured out the Korean characters thing, sent the Korean subject line and the message in English, and received a message back in English. If you're already dealing with your retailer, don't send a message to Starmax. I think that'll just add more work on Starmax's part to figure out which requests are duplicate.

I think they mean YOUR phone number. A number that Starmax can contact you at (which I doubt they would ever do).

I'm going to post the Korean characters again:

올드보이UE 디지팩 교환신청

If you see the above as Korean characters, you can copy and paste it as the subject of your email to Starmax. Otherwise, don't bother.

To see the Korean characters on Windows XP:

To get Korean language support:
Start --> Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options --> Languages (Tab) --> Install files for East Asian Languages
(it then prompts you for the Windows XP installation disk)

In Internet Explorer, go to View -> Encoding -> More -> Korean.
Refresh this page, and you should see the Korean characters.

Make sure you send the email from a "real" email provider - ATT, gmail, etc. - not yahoo or hotmail. Include your name, address, phone number, and Oldboy serial number.

Starmax is still gathering info on replacement requests, so there may be time to send a request. Again, if you're working through your retailer, it's probably not necessary to send a duplicate request to Starmax. Deal with Starmax directly if your retailer won't/can't contact them for you.

Any idea how I get the Korean font in Outlook 2003? For some reason the subject line shows up as ?????, but if I enter it in the actual email, it shows up as 올드보이UE 디지팩 교환신청.

DVDFever 12-20-04 05:00 PM

Thanks for the help guys i filled in my phone number but i wasnt really sure it was the right thing.

Its off to waiting now then...

Trigger 12-20-04 05:47 PM

Sent an email to Koreandvds asking them to check my copy of Old Boy for damage before sending and if damaged, to include me in their request to Starmax for replacement. Their speedy reply:

Dear Customer

We know why the digipak is damaged, so we will send it not to be damaged. So don’t worry about tit. You will receive it without any damage.

Your order will be shipped within December 22~24.

Thanks.

From www.koreandvds.com
So, I shouldn't worry about tit - but what about the DVD cases? How do you suppose they're gonna go about shipping it without damage? Wouldn't it have gotten damaged from being shipped to them?

Brent L 12-20-04 05:50 PM

I wish they would send me that email so I wouldn't have to worry about tit anymore either. :(

DrGerbil 12-20-04 05:52 PM

I've never ordered from Koreandvds, but if they are based in Korea, it's possible that the cases avoided damage. The irony is that the piece of foam was placed on the wrong side of the case, exposing the keepcases to the rivets. If that piece of foam were packed on the correct side (the one adjacent to the rivets) none of this would have happened. I'm guessing Koreandvds remedied this... but it would require them to break the seal on the outer, purple box. Hopefully, you are not intending to use it as a gift. ;)

Brent L 12-20-04 06:03 PM

I hope they took the time to make sure mine will be ok before they shipped it out on the 14th.

See my earlier post: "KoreanDVDs had actually opened the set and placed bubble wrap inside the copper case, but there was still some damage to the digipacks."

So you will probably still have some marks on your digipacks, although they will be much lighter than what has been seen so far. I was surprised that they didn't switch around the foam as DrGerbil suggested, they just put a piece of bubble wrap inside the case. They did open the seal but I couldn't really tell they had done so.

So the bubble wrap wasn't part of the original packing? Mine came from DVDAsian and it also had some bubble wrap on the inside of the tin.

ehonauer 12-20-04 10:40 PM

I ordered one previously from YesAsia and there was no bubblewrap inside the copper case.

ehonauer 12-22-04 03:34 PM

Looks like this puppy is gone now - out of stock at KoreanDVDs.com.

Still available at HKflix for $199, and this place, which I've never heard of, for $116: http://hanbooks.com/olliuledr4di.html

Shintaro 12-22-04 09:30 PM

DVDfromKorea has it listed as in stock for $93.99.

I recently bought stuff from them, and it was smooth all the way.

ehonauer 12-23-04 09:24 AM

Indeed, it is. Funny, they were out of stock a couple of weeks ago.

Brent L 12-23-04 11:36 AM

Well, I got my Oldboy UE from KoreanDVDs in the mail today. Two of the things are damaged, but not really all that much. The two that are damaged are the Ult. Movie and the Ult. Supplement I cases.

Also, they shipped it to me in a nomal brown box. As I opened the top of the brown box, laying on top of the bubble wrap that was around the purple box, was a DVD in a plastic sleeve. The film is listed as Time To Die on the DVD itself, released by a company called Daum I do believe. When I put it in, it says it's called Expect To Die. What exactly is this and why did they put this in my package?

The reviews for this movie sound great! ;)

I just hope this DVD isn't a message from the Grim Reaper!!!

For the record, the number of my Oldboy UE set is 0288.

Brent L 12-26-04 05:19 PM

One of these just sold on eBay for only $110, shipping included. The seller and winner both had 0 feedback though.

Yeah, I'm the buyer. I don't usually buy off of ebay, and I'm bit nervous about the seller. I know I'm legit. I'll post again once I have it in my hands.

Only $8 for shipping? Even if he sends it parcel post, i'm sure it will be at least $10. Nice deal!

Brent L 12-26-04 05:43 PM

Cool, keep us updated on this Miyazaki!

Shintaro 12-27-04 03:39 AM

Did you actually email them about the copper case being damaged?
Try again, or contact the store you bought it from.

movieking 12-27-04 07:59 PM

Did anyone get any feedback from YesAsia? A friend of mine who ordered it through them responded to their emails from phone numbers and tin number, but they did not get back to him.

Yesasia didn't get back to anyone yet... but I expect them to soon.

Shintaro 12-29-04 03:30 AM

Got my replacement digipak's today.
Starmax has also thrown in what looks to be a plastic coated cardboard liner for the copper case.

It's Black & grey with the fractured pattern on it (same as the gift box) with OLDBOY written down the front.

Edit: sorry for the poor quality, were taken with a mobile.

got mine today - no damage to speak of really... My only problem is gonna be keeping them that way. Wish I had that thing you got. Oh well. Don't know what number mine is - didn't check and I have a headache right now.

Romerojpg 12-29-04 07:31 AM

I emailed Yesasai yes, and sent Pics of my Toin and cases, so its up to them to do the right thing by me.

and that inside liner thing is a little late I guess, as all the damage is done now, but hey at least they know they messed up Big.

bluesparrow 12-29-04 07:28 PM

What I don't understand is why the dvd sites that sold the UE didn't request the replacement digipacks themselves once they found out about the problem.

Shintaro 12-29-04 10:14 PM

Too much work for them perhaps?

bluesparrow 12-30-04 01:10 PM

Yeah, I guess since the set sells out everywhere they don't have to. :/

sofdec 12-30-04 03:23 PM

I just got mine today as well and would like to give a huge thanks to Starmax for owning up to their mistakes and replacing the cases for us.. Especially those of us who live in the US. Most other companies would've just said "Oh well, its your problem not ours" and left us empty.

While the damage on mine wasnt bad to begin with, I really do appreciate them replacing it, and even moreso, sending out those liners (I had no clue what it was at first until I checked here). That really make it look nice now, and helps the cases go in/out easier.

Did you receive any sort of response from Starmax when you requested replacement cases? Just wondering because I have not received anything from them yet.

Trigger 12-30-04 04:33 PM

I just sent Starmax a request for that liner since my digipacs are only lightly scuffed. My set is 0671 in case anyone's keeping track.
