Just got the same e-mail. But, 1st paragraph, says to reply to the e-mail on or before Dec. 20th so they can notify Starmax on the # of replacement cases. That makes sense. 3rd paragraph is confusing. It says reply to this e-mail and send the damaged cases back???

Wow, I never even bothered to contact yesasia, and they contacted me!, all they wanted were a few pics showing the extent of the damage, so I have sent the ones that I have posted here. I am really impressed that they are going to such an extent to replace them. Well done yesasia!

I don't clap until the show is over. At least they are acting on it. We'll see at the end how they managed, so far they are doing well.
EDIT: I just got off the phone with yesasia to see what were my options or to see if they could check the digipacks before they sent it to me so that i wouldn't miss out. First of all, the girl I talked to had no clue as to anything, I mentioned the email, i mentioned the issue, i mentioned evrything and all I got was "you get an email from yesasia.com?" "so the email was from yesasia.com" and then I get the "it might not matter because it doesn't look like we'll be able to get it from our distributor because I looked at the item and its out of print" which is incredible because when I placed the order it was in stock with a ship in 1 to 2 days status. then it went out of stock and then it came back in and now is not. But I figured, if someone makes an order, once its starts getting processed, don't the item get placed on hold?

Just talked to a nice rep at YesAsia, she said that we don't have to send back cases, they just want photos of the damage. They are going to present them to Starmax and Starmax will do a re-pressing of the cases. She asked me to just email her the photos and reference my order number.
Hope that clears it up..

funny, i also called Yesasia this morning asking about the e-mail i got from them. the CSR was asking if i called earlier, so i must've called after Geminix. she asked that i email her a digital photo of the damaged digipacks, as that should be enough evidence to send to Starmax.

Wasn't me.. I had JUST called like 5 minutes ago. I mentioned that I'm sure this has caused a big mess for them..she agreed and said that they've had several calls just today about it, plus all the emails

If you have encountered defect or damage on the captioned item other than the above specified, please kindly provide us with a supporting image when you reply to this email so that we can try to negotiate with Starmax Co., Ltd., Korea to see if a replacement is feasible.

Okay, here's how I read the email:
If you have encountered the same problem, please kindly notify us by replying this email on or before Dec 20, 2004 so that we can notify Starmax Co., Ltd., Korea on the number of replacement case. However, may we have your kind attention that their new batch of replacement case will become ready by early January 2005 and thus, please kindly expect to receive the replacement case by mid to late January 2005.
This email went out to everybody who ordered the Oldboy UE, and if you haven't contacted them already, they want a heads up.

If you have damage to something besides the disc 1 & 2 digipacks, send a picture. I wonder if the reps on the phone are mixing up the sending of images with their policy for the known damaged digipacks, which seems to be this:
On the other hand, if you have already reported your defective case to us but not yet send back your item, please also reply to this email so that we can include your case in this replacement process. If you have already returned it and it reaches us on or before Dec 20, 2004, we will arrange to include your case in the replacement process but if you have already returned your item but your returned item does not reach us on or before Dec 20, 2004, we will have no way to include your case in this replacement process and Starmax Co., Ltd., Korea may not entertain any further claims.
EDIT: Okay, disregard the following paragraph. It sounds like they just want names and addresses, the email was a little clumsily worded.
No matter what they tell you, I'd send in the digipacks. This is pretty explicit, in writing, that if you don't send your digipacks, you're not going to get a replacement. I replied to the email and asked what address to send them to, since they didn't include a mailing address on the email.
In this case, we will have no choice but to refund the relevant product price to your YesAsia account for your next or future shopping.
This sounds like if you don't get replacement cases, they will give a store credit. I assume you'd have to send the entire set back to them.
Of course, something might be getting lost in the translation here.

The way I read the 3rd paragraph, I believe it only applies to people who have already returned their damaged set so it doesn't affect most of us. But I guess it woudn't hurt to send the damaged digipacks back to them anyway.
And I also read the above as "only send pics if you have damaged items OTHER than digipak 1 and 2."
So I'm now going to reply to that e-mail but I'm also sending one to Starmax with the info they required just in case.

I recieved mine today from DVDAsian. Luckily it is not greasy at all, and the tin itself is in great shape. There are a couple of scuff marks on the actual dvd cases, which I am going to email DVDAsian about.

Yeah, I really wouldnt even try sending it back. I dont see what they'd need it for (Unless they need to send all back to korea, which I doubt) and you'd be stuck with a loose disc for a month or so, then like you mentioned, all the problems that could occur.
An unrelated question though - Do all the Oldboy Ultimate DVDs have different film-strips?
The 3 I got were:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...c/DSC02035.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...c/DSC02034.jpg
and was wondering if they're all like that, if there are several different ones, or if each ones different. Anyone know?

Yesasia canceled my order because its out of print. even though it was "in stock" when I ordered it. who would have thought that ordering something would not matter when it came to putting the item away for your order.

Buddhawake - When did you place your order?
I would assume that their stock status is probably not updated in real-time, which can be pretty common. I've even had that happen on Amazon.. I order something in stock, then it changes to 'Ships in 5-7 days'.

i ordered last tuesday. but is all good. It seems koreandvds.com had some or had some in stock so i used the 25% off coupon and it came out cheaper even with EMS delivery. hopefully that won't fall through. probably will though.

if Yesasia (or whatever seller you bought from) doesn't need the cases, then i wouldn't send them back. 1. you spend $$ to return something that they don't require back, and 2. you run the risk of getting your replacement order unfulfilled for whatever reason (lost your order, not pressing any more, etc.) and then you'll REALLY be screwed as you'll be left with ANY cases, damaged or otherwise.

Thought this would interest you...
KoreanDVDs tell me Starmax will be sending me replacement digipacks directly (to the UK) and I won't need to return the damaged ones.
So it looks like the retailers just need to send Starmax a list and they'll dispatch replacements, even internationally.
