Okay. That should be impossible considering there were only 2,754 made. That probably means a few more were produced after the initial run.

That's right. Starmax stated only 2754 were made.
Will be posting a question about this to their forums, though they are unlikely to asnwer, as always.

It's possible that Starmax produced a higher number of copper cases (e.g. 3,000) that were stamped with numbers as they were made, then some were discarded. There's usually some waste in a production process.

If that were the case, the number of completed sets could be 2,754, but the numbering of the sets would not be a sequential 0001 - 2754. Does that make sense? I'd still like to hear what Starmax has to say about it.

Also, I tried to rip the DVD with a couple of programs and no dice. Apparently it does have some kind of new-fangled copy protection on it (can't blame them, what with the rampant number of Oldboy SE bootlegs out there). But that could explain the Chapter 13 freezing some people are experiencing, if Starmax did something non-standard during mastering in order to pull off the copy protection.

Yeah, sounds like ehon might be right on this one.

I used to work (temp) for a plastic molding facility and they made an extra 10% more parts than the required number (which in this case would be pretty much right around the 2700 total), so they could've just started off with 3,000 (Numbered 1-3000) and then ended up witht he 2750 total in the end which would be cheaper than going back and re-making the 'bad' numbers over again.

I would tend to agree with you guys.
However, pressing extra copies would explain the rather long delay on this title. Remember, this was originally going to ship early to mid october.

Also, if it's true that they have pressed more, then it's not as exclusive as they led people to believe. I personally think Starmax has bowed to pressure from distributors/resellers who know they can make a killing on it.

Yesasia. I remember placing an order before work, during the first few hours after it became available on August 23rd. So, i'm just curious if yesasia sent them out in any particular order.

I am sure many of the origanal pressing would have been damaged and they may have scrapped them, and then added a few to the 1st run.

got my yesasia order last week, and watched the movie over the weekend. interesting movie with some thought-provoking (though mildly disturbing) plots.

as for my box, did anyone's dvd cases get scratched inside the packaging? the dvds come in these slim cardboard digipaks, all packed inside the metal tin. some of the inside bolts must've scratched the spines of the digipacks during shipping. not a big deal, but was curious if others had this happen to their copies.

yes, i should've read two pages up; i'm gonna contact Yesasia to try to get replacement digipack cases. thanks!

and yes, the case was covered with grease, probably to keep the metal from rusting or as part of its finish. wiped it off with a paper towel and it was fine.

Dear Customer

The starmax will send replacement. So you don't need to return it.

Thanks.

ahh okay, Let me know if you guys get anything. I'd hate to find out later on that gmail responces havent been getting through and the deadlines up.

Just wanted to make sure I wasnt alone on this

My case isnt that bad at all really, so I wont be too disappointed if I dont get a replacement, but when you pay THIS much (I paid a little more than everyone else it seems ($120 + Tax) buying it from a local store), you just expect it to be perfect.

according to yesasia's shipping estimate. mines won't reach me until after the new years which kinds of sucks because i won't know the extent of the damage. My order is currently in "locating from suppliers" or whatever it is. I'm telling you guys, nothing but bad luck to me, look at the infernal affairs issue. Same thing.
