The only insert I want is the disc!

And what a great disc and film this is!

Really enjoyed the film and appreciated the respect the film gave to Romero's classic.

Are you sure the "jaggies" aren't just from a bad PAL to NTSC transfer coming off your player? My Malata used to have these "jaggies" AKA "staircasing" on some PAL discs. This problem is nowhere to be seen on my two Philips players now (a 727 and 642).

It's not a PAL to NTSC problem, because I have plenty of PAL discs that look great on my HDTV though my JVC, IMHO, FWIW, WTF...

do you have the modded JVC xv-sa600/602? have you tried changing the progressive mode settings? try both the film/video settings and see if that makes any difference.

I have this problem on certain discs and that is what I do to correct them.

Actually, yes, I first had it in NON-progressive mode, and changing it to progressive eliminated some jagginess, but since the dvd is flagged for video, and not for film, other problems arose. Overall, it looked better in non-progressive mode. The problems are definitely compression - again, this is one packed disc and some sacrifices had to be made.

But I'm just nit-picking - it's really not that big of a deal.

I just got mine in....and I see the "jagginess" problem. I thought it might just be the player, but I popped it in my Cyberhome 300 also, and it still looks pretty much the same. It's not terribly distracting, but still not a perfect image. On the plus side, I found out that my Cyberhome 300 does PAL transfer without stretching the image. I had one before that I returned that stretched the image. The only reason I bought it again was because it was down really cheap to a measley $20 and it was very portable for trips to friends houses that were all-region challenged. I guess they upgraded the hardware since the last one I bought. Coolness.

I watched the disc over the weekend.

Fun film but is it just me or does the film not quite measure up to SPACED? It isn't up to even the weakest episode for me. Felt like it was stretched out a bit.

Still liked it, but maybe because SPACED was so great that this just can't compare.

I too got around to watching it over the weekend. I really enjoyed it, I thought there were some really hilarious moments. Did it measure up to Spaced? I don't know. It is hard to compare the two since they are different formats. But you are right it was a bit stretched out in parts IMO.

I noticed the jagginess too, and I don't even have a kick ass set up. I really wished they would have made this a two disc release. There are a lot of extras crammed on here.

Overall great film though

does anyone have any screenshots of this "jagged" picture? I just want to see how distracting it might be before I go and place an order.

Since mine won't arrive for at least another week, you all suck.

btw, do any of you know if, when it hits the theaters here this month, it'll be unedited? Because there are a couple of gory scenes that I doubt would make it past the ratings board with an R.

I will see if I can take some tonight when I get home (if no one else does it before me).

It was a little annoying at first, but by 15-20 mins in to the movie I was enjoying it too much to be bothered by them.

The film is so fast moving and eye/ear popping I never noticed 'jagged' pictures at all.

All looked fine on my PAL DVD player and PAL TV.

I have read of comments elsewhere, but I couldn't see a problem.

slop101,

in regards to MPAA cutting, when I talked with Edgar Wright at the sneak last month, I noted that I was surprised at that the amount of gore and if any edits were made to appease the rating's board - he stated no, they were very lenient and didn't cut a frame for the US R-rated cut.

Well i tried taking screenshots...

When I take the screenshot the BMP looks fine, but it doesn't when watching it. I don't know enough about this to know WTF that means, but here is the best I can do....

What it looks like (approx.) when watching:

What it looks like in the screenshot:

Little bit jaggy in places, but I didn't care! It never interrupted my enjoyment of the film.

Are those experiencing the jaggies watching the film on an interlaced set? I don't see any problems when viewing SHAUN on either my progressive-scan 16:9 RPTV or computer monitor, but do when it is run through my regular 4:3 TV. I've talked to others using projectors and they don't notice anything wrong either.

thanks fnordboy!

I do notice a little jagginess in the comparison shots you posted. especially near the side/edge of the passenger side window of that car.

I may order it regardless, since it doesn't look too bad.

Also to anyone who has ordered that limited edition cover from Amazon UK, does it really take 1-2 weeks to ship, compared to the regular version which is only 24 hours?

No problem.

I got the limited cover and mine came last week. The limited cover is just that... a different cover. I thought it would be a slipcase but it isn't. So in reality if you are worried about it just go for the regular cover...unless you love the LE cover.

The jagginess isn't too bad, but I foudn it slightly distracting at first. Once the movie gets rolling you don't really notice it. I am watching on only a 27" though so I wonder how it is on bigger screens.

Can I just say that the actor in the photo above is actually eating an English sticky toffee. Any suggestion he's watching a zombie eat someone's brains is ridiculous.

Realize that most (99%) of all PAL discs are flagged as video. This is really hard on a DVD players de-interlacer, so jaggies are probably not a big issue. If you have a forced film mode on your player, try that. This is where a player that will handel 2:2 de-interlacing really comes in handy.

I got home to find mine arrived. I started to watch it, and noticed some jaggies on the hairs of the actors. But after a while, I no longer noticed it. Great movie, BTW. I look forward to seeing it again in the theaters next Friday.
