Trigger, did you get the normal SE or the new UE (with the longer cut)? I have the SE and am wondering the extras are the same. They probably are, but you never know.

Has anyone seen a Korean TV series called Damo: The Lady Detective of Chosun Dynasty? A couple of sites list an end of August English-subtitled DVD release of the series (the earlier Korean DVD release didn't have English subs).

Is it a talky stageplay-like drama or more in the spirit of wide-open action/romance/drama/adventure? I always enjoy stuff like "Twilight Samurai", "When the Last Sword is Drawn", "Hero", "Warriors of Heaven and Earth", "Musa", "The Legend of the Evil Lake", "The Legend of Suriyothai", etc. and am curious if "Damo" might be somewhat similar.

Sorry, but which movie are you referring to?

Mikko, I saw Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring theatrically and enjoyed it quite a bit, though I'm not sure how well the sweeping shots of the scenery will translate to a home setting. It's a simple film; everything you need to know about it is in the title. It's also one of the most beautifully shot films I've seen in quite some time. I hope the picture quality of the DVD is top notch, because the visuals in this film pretty much demand it.

Oops, sorry, Trigger. It's Underworld.

flixtime, where did you see that info? The series is a nice blend of drama and action, without the stageplayish quality you mention.

pat00139, the info. on the Damo series is on both Yesasia and DVDAsian. Yesasia started featuring it prominently the other day. DVDAsian lists both the old Korean release without subs and also the new subtitled released being offered by Yesasia. DVDAsian mentions the un-subbed Korean release as being the Director's cut of the series, I am assuming the subbed release is the same. Appreciate the feedback on the series, I'm very tempted to take a gamble and place my order.

Well, the new UE is a vast improvement over the already packed SE that was originally released. The UE does have some of the extras that the SE had plus heaps more that the SE didn't have. It also appears to have a new commentary. It's a worthwhile upgrade. Not only that, but they add 12 minutes to the movie (which help flesh out the story and the characters more). The packaging alone is worth the upgrade I think, but this one has enough new extras and such that it's almost silly not to upgrade if you liked the film.

Thanks, but unfortunately the UE doesn't have a DTS track, but the SE does. That's about the only reason a person would keep the SE, right? If I knew the UE would've been coming out, I wouldn't have bought the SE... Oh, well...

Well, I'm big on DTS tracks, but the 5.1 on this was superb.

Anyone seen this yet? Also, the un-subbed is listed as 1:85 anamorphic while the one with English sub-titles is listed as 4:3. Can anyone confirm if this is accurate.

A friend of mine saw it when it aired here locally and said it was pretty good--so I ordered it. Also, I asked my nuna and she said it was pretty good.

The box on my subtitled set (ordered from Yesasia) says 4:3.

Coincidently, I got a new shipment in today - watched Azumi and Arahan.

Arahan = 7.5/10
Azumi = 6.5/10 (maybe a 7)

Both were pretty good. I can give reviews later if anyone cares anymore what I think about shit.

Have you had a check to confirm that it is in fact 4:3? Sometime there are labeling issues, at least that is what I am hoping for. This was released in 16:9 on the Korean version (No subs). I don't understand why they would have gone 4:3.

Watched Sky High (japan) - what a piece of shit. 3/10 -

Stupid story... really really stupid. The acting was campy crap and the effects were mediocre. The camera-work was sometimes flashy, but without a real purpose. The stunts and swordfights were laughable. The characters were one-dimensional cliches - evil rich guy, cop looking for revenge, blah blah... This film had no redeeming qualities that I can think of other than a good DVD presentation.

If you believe in god and the devil and a spirit and an afterlife and a swordfighting gate guardian chick who helps those murdered decide whether to go to heaven and be reborn, go to hell for eternity, or walk around earth as a ghost forever... then you may like it. Although you may have a hard time wrapping your brain around people walking around for several minutes after having their heart ripped out.

This isn't an official review, just some thoughts... as always, I'm up for posting a real review if anyone cares anymore.
