Actually, their economy shipping only takes 5-8 days to reach me here in NYC. I used express shipping just once - when I first ordered from amazon Japan - and never looked back

Yes, it certainly indicates that DVD is degenerating into fascism.
I can easily afford to buy the thing, but then I realize, paying $150 for it is like getting a lap dance from Chiaki Kuriyama...

Hell, for for less than $150 you could:
Buy the R2 Japan DVD.
Buy simliar katana blade off the web.
Make your own t-shirt with an iron-on.
I think I'll pre-order the single dvd right now and wait to see if R3 gets a similar release.

I've used economy shipping for orders ranging from 1 DVD (Azumi LE, around $60) to 8-9 books (approx. $250 worth) and they all arrived in the general timeframe of 5-7 days (I think one package took 10 days once, but that was out of the ordinary).
I've ordered things by SAL and seamail, and Amazon Japan's economy shipping is definitely neither of those - more on par to airmail.
At this point however, I'd be hesitent to change anything on my order. I'm not sure how changes work "behind the scenes" at Amazon, but for all I know it might bump you to the end of the line or something.
However, just use economy shipping for the next time

Don't forget that Hollywood films vastly outsell Japanese films in Japan. The local audience eats up a huge proportion of the stock of LTD US releases. That's why it's always a good idea to add a limited pressing to your amazon japan orders as you can cancel it at any time prior to release.

I can finally be on the other end of this now After post after post of mine in this thread saying how I missed out ordering this form Amazon & cd japan. I can now happily say I got it from HMV.jp (as long as they don't cancel my order) for what seems like now a great price of $84.

Wow, one guy from Canada must have managed to pre-order a few of them. He's quickly sold at least 3 on ebay for $155-165.00 a piece so far. At amazon.jp prices, thats almost 100.00 profit each. I wish I was in a more mercenary state of mind when I placed my order and got more than one. I'm kind of curious as to how many of the 30,000 will end up outside of Japan.

Perhaps, but this is a pre-order. What happens if in 2 months they don't actually have the copies on-hand? Hell, I could go and sell a copy right now, take the $150 and FIND a copy in the next two months for far less. So how come others aren't doing this? There are always places in the city that have such rare items, even months after perceived scarcity. Hell, I saw copies of Salo a few months ago for no more than $200. I'm not even interested in the damn set, but those that want it are forced to pay $160 at yesasia to get it, all because some brilliant marketing pricks decided to limit the print run. Now you have people hording them just to make a buck. I wouldn't be surprised if they did a second run of these, just to cheese people off even further. If this ever happened in R1, the reaction would be VIOLENT, IMHO. /rant with my apologies.
