CD Japan is very reliable, but unlike Amazon, you pay the full retail Japanese price, and the shipping and handling are a bit steeper (but if Amazon is sold out, those points are moot anyway). At least I can firmly state that they are reputable, as I've ordered from them several times and have had flawless service.

Miramax doesn't have much interest in fancy packaging on their DVDs.

Anyone use this site? Are they reliable? I was too late again on CD japan. Also, hmv japan doesn't seem to convert the cost into American dollars. But it does seem like your first order with them is free shipping, but it doesn't look like they ship to the US. Any help is VERY appreciated.

I'm about to pre-order it but I cannot figure out a way to convert the yen to $s. The total is 9,700 yen which I figure is around $90 which seems to be a lot more than Amazon had it for.

HMV is one of the largest record store chains in the world. They're not a fly-by-night, although I've never ordered from them online, from Japan or otherwise.

In my experience they are reliable.
With regards to your questions the easiest would be to check their online help. It's very comprehensive.
They do indeed ship to the US.
9,700 yen is about 90$ - it is more than Amazon, but if you want it you want it!

Yup, me too. This is my first big out of region purchase, so I waited for some feedback here (thanks to everyone that responded) before I preordered. Missed out on Amazonjp, cdjapan, which were both I think around $70. And I ended up a little while ago preordering from hmv where the total came up to $88 US. Is that what you paid? Honestley I don't mind one bit, I dig the movie about as much as anything I've seen over the last few years, I'm a sucker for all that extra stuff in it, & when the US relese finally get a box set with nothing in it, , & only 3,000 of us have this box set, & I display all the stuff in it around my set-up with all the Kill Bill figures, that is money well spent for me. I just hope they don't cancel my pre-order.

I highly doubt that we'll get something this good over here in Region 1. The only time we seem to get big promotional items with DVDs seems to be with anime releases (dolls, t-shirts, dog tags) and that's only because the market for anime is such a niche one. A movie this big will have a huge market for one and you know the same Joe Six packs who complain about widescreen are going to take one look at the $70 price tag and think Miramax is crazy. Nah, they'll probably only release a box set that has just the box and the DVDs. Think of the contraversy it would start if soccer moms picked up this DVD for themselves or their teenagers and found a tiny sword inside. True whoever's showing this would be treated to a bloody mess of a movie, but still you know that society would find a way to pick on the sword rather then the movie.

Unfortunately, people see much worse in real life and choose to ignore it, but, any movie violence immediately draws their ire. Now THAT is pathetic.

I hope no one bids on that. Anyone who does deserves to be ripped off.

Makes me feel not as bad paying $88 for the box set.

Does anyone know if HMV.co.jp charges you when the item ships or do they charge you right away?

Since the set was going for around $90-100 USD for the pre-order, $155 on eBay really isn't that much of a gouge, especially considering that it's a limited edition of 30,000.
