Also here at Amazon.co.jp:

Available for preorder, but at 29,800 yen, or about $284 + shipping, and will be released on April 30.

I just ordered this from amazon.jp, but it was only 23,840. Was this the cheaper version that doesn't have the alien head?

I'm having trouble making an Amazon.co.jp account. If only I spoke Japanese...

What the hell is Furigana? It won't let me order without inputting it in there.

It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine....

Got it ordered, I just typed my name again in the Furigana box. Hope that's what they want.

If the alien head looks like the first picture, I want it... if it looks like the second picture, I'd be pissed.

The second picture is a Kubrick figure that comes with the "Regular" release. AFAIK. The first pic is the 25th Anniversary Special Edition (completely seperate from the second pic).

I am REALLY thinking about ordering this. It isn't a bad price at all considering it is coming from Japan. I might break down and get this.

tenaciousdave, i just placed an order with amazon.co.jp for this. for the Furigana, i put in "none" (i don't understand Japanese either), and the system took it. i think that is the shorthand phonetic way of pronouncing a japanese word.

i chose international economy (3-4 weeks, yikes!) but there's no estimate to cost for that. anyone know from experience?

darmok,
I live in Los Angeles. International Economy states 3-4 weeks but from personal experience none of my packages have taken more than a fortnight. I've used amazon.co.jp to order r2js many times with the average wait time for IE being a week.

Their express option is very fast - only 2 business days from Tokyo to LA on average.

Furigana is generally the Hiragana characters that are often displayed above Kanji (Chinese style) characters to provide an easier to read phoenetic translation of the Kanji. In this case, I would assume that they want you to enter your name using Hiragana (if you are Japanese).

There is actually an English help option which assists you through the signing up process at Amazon Japan.

As far as the shipping cost goes, for mine to ship from Japan to Australia using Standard International, the cost is 900 yen... which is damned cheap considering the size this sucker is likely to be.

Also, for SuprMallet's benefit, the version you ordered is the same one as linked to earlier in this thread... if you had read the pricing on the item's page at Amazon Japan, you would have noticed that it is discounted by 20%.

That happened to me with my Nausicaa Collector's Box order which incurred charges of over $100 Australian dollars.

I then contacted Amazon Japan explaining that I had requested standard International shipping, and they agreed that they should pay the customs charges (which they did).

Thanks! I'm always a little wary when dealing with sites translated through babelfish.

Also, I noticed this was an NTSC release, which means I won't get any PAL-NTSC conversion problems, and can sell my region 1 set.

And I thought the Battlestar Galactica Cyclon head was interesting.

Damn that's sweet. Love that alien head. I also like the green cases for the discs. Too bad they didn't use that for the R1 edition.

I'd love to see some more pics of this and comments when anyone receives theirs.

Yeah - I just checked CD Japan and it doesn't seem to be listed there - different catalog number... I really want to order this as a gift for someone - if anyone finds it can you email me? Thanks.

Only interested in this packaging through curiosity..but what does appeal to me about the impending Japanese R2 releases is the prospect of an English DTS track for the individual 'Aliens' release.

30000 yen?!?!?!?!

That's some pretty nifty packaging there, but 30000 yen? I completely splurged on the Battle Royale 2 Deluxe box and that was only 9800 yen. Why do Japanese DVDs have to be so expensive?

280 bucks, but don't forget the shipping, which I'm guessing will run you another 280 bucks.

I want this, though... I better start saving up my yen...
