Turns out the Malata is under warranty with the manufacturer for 1 year from purchase. I called up Malata Canada and thry gave me the instructions to send my player in for repair. I also confirmed that the repairs would not remove the region selectability that AVDeals did. The person I spoke to was very helpful and he told me it should only take about a week to a week 1/2 from when they receive the player to get it back to me. I mailed it off this morning (cost me $32) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh, and to answer you r question, Rocky, yes the light does stay on all the time if you turn the player off with the remote. I always turned my player off from the remote to keep my settings as well.

Yes, the red logo light stays on all the time. No, it doesn't hurt anything.

Resetting Interlaced/Progressive

I had a problem when I set the output to progressive scan on my N-996. The screen went blank after the "Welcome" message. Powering down did not reset the system. I called Malata Canada and they walked me through a re-set. While this problem has been mentioned in previous threads, this sequence has not and the remedies that seemed to work for other people did not work for me, so I'm posting the sequence that Malata gave me.

1. Do a cold start (turn off the machine with the power button, not the remote)
2. Turn the machine back on
3. On the remote, hit "Set-Up"
4. Hit "OK"
5. Hit the "Down" key 5 times
6. Hit "OK"
7. Hit the "Up" key once
8. Hit "OK"

This restored the picture on my RCA F38310.

BTW, anybody know which composite setting I should use for this model? I can't set the progressive scan unitl the right composite settings have been set. Right now I'm using the RCA jacks.

I'm not quite sure I understand your question. If your TV is an HDTV, then the component cables in the back should work just fine and you can then navigate in the menu and switch to 480p mode.
