Due to no more mailings coming in the upcoming months I highly doubt there will be anymore freebie codes. The ones Doctor X discovered were, I believe, for when a member switched to a paperless membership. Thus, no more paper mailings = no more freebie codes.

Same stock...Same TOOS. Last month they didn't even send me anything (and didn't charge me) because my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd titles in my queue were all TOOS. One was the James Bond compilation, other two I don't recall.

I got an email today saying that Public Enemy "Fear of a Black Planet" is not available. I ordered it on 1/23. Maybe 2 months is the limit? Anyway, I get to order another one. The PE cd is still listed on the site...

I would say absolutely pick up some albums. Recommendations for Bowie are tricky though because there's so many styles going on through his catalog. My personal favorite is Hunky Dory, but most of his albums up through Young Americans are pretty solid. What are your favorite songs on the compilation, the albums they're from might be a good starting place?

I am a huge Bowie fan (more 70's & 80's then current). Of the titles currently on the club, I'd suggest the most essential are:
Sound & Vision Box Set (if you're only going to get 1, this would be THE ONE)
Scary Monsters (prog)
Station To Station (prog meets soul)
Diamond Dogs 30th Anniversary Edition (largely based on Orwell's 1984, depressing but superb)
David Live (Bowie 70's standards done pop/soul with great guitar from Earl Slick)
Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust (possibly the best glam album EVER)
Hunky Dory (his most acoustic album)
Though all of the Bowie non comps (with the exception of Young Americans) the club has are excellent imo.

I've picked up all of the non-compilation Bowie cds left at BMG and they have been good. Of course, there is a little hit and miss, but I have been satisfied...

Re: One & Only BMG Music Service Thread (Part 5)
I prefer his earlier works with my favorite being "Hunky Dory" followed closely by "Ziggy Stardust", then "Man of Words/Man of Music" aka "Space Oddity", and "The Man who Sold the World". Outside those 4 core albums I prefer "changesbowie" and "Essential - Best of 1969-1974" for the few songs I like from the latter years and "rarities" from the earlier recordings. While I have a copy of "Sound + Vision" I feel it's more for hardcore fans of his entire output as it contains *lots* of alternate mixes, live recordings, out-takes, etc. Not that it's bad, but I would only recommend it after you've purchased select other albums to make sure you *really* like Bowie.

Thanks for recos guys. I will definitely go ahead and pick up Hunky Dory and Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust. Probably the rest of those mentioned, as well, depending on how much I wanna splurge in the last weeks of the club.

Got an email yesterday where they're plugging adding an Andera Bocelli cd to the club.
I don't mean this as a personal attack on Mr Bocelli, but when that's what they're plugging to rock & jazz members as their hottest "new release", it's pretty darn pathetic. They also mention "Fall Out Boy" & "Snow Patrol".......................

Aladdin Sane
Pin-Ups
Diamond Dogs
Let's Dance
...The first three are straight-on rock albums. "Let's Dance" is very catchy dance music. I haven't checked recently, but of these I think the only one BMG has available is "Diamond Dogs".

I love pretty much everything Bowie did up through Scary Monsters. You definitely need Heroes, Low and Lodger too IMO...really, just buy everything they have! At least all the studio albums.

In addition to those two, some personal favourites I'd recommend are:

Diamond Dogs

Sad thing is as a 70's Bowie completest, in most cases I've had to keep the dreadful sounding Ryko's for the bonus tracks, & the EMI's for tolerable sound quality.

Re: One & Only BMG Music Service Thread (Part 5)
For any of you who have ordered the Sound+Vision box set from BMG, can you tell me if I should order that EMI version or try and find the original
Ryko version. I hear the EMI one has some extra tracks, but the sound may not be as good as the Ryko box. Thanks!
