I have a $5 RZ certificate burning a hole in my pocket. That steelbook looks pretty sweet... sold!

I could have gotten both movies UHD for $9.99 after the credit. :grumble: Damn. Oh well. This will hold me over until November. I still plan to get the 4K disc.

i know, I saw the $14.99 2fer after the fact. I got the UHD for $20 and even though had Top Gun already still would have been saving $5.00. Oh well. And no need for physical since all extras in Vudu.

Guess there is not really a store exclusive since Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target all have the same steelbook cover artwork though one has interchangeable art as mentioned before.

Got that Wal-Mart exclusive pre-ordered. This is probably my fourth disc purchase of the year. Feels so different from the peak collecting days.

The Digital Bits has confirmed that the IMAX shifting AR will be included.

[Editor’s Note: We have now confirmed with Paramount Home Entertainment that Top Gun: Maverick on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and Digital WILL indeed feature a variable aspect ratio presentation that shifts back and forth from 2.39 to 1.78 for the IMAX sequences.]

Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22

It was reported on another forum that on currently available streaming copies of the movie, the IMAX sequences open to 1.90:1, not 1.78:1. This makes sense, as the movie was filmed with IMAX digital cameras, which shoot at that ratio.

Hope that does not mean the picture goes full screen and then widescreen which is kind of annoying

It does. It's variable aspect ratio. I have to double check to see if it's 1.90:1 and not 1.78:1. I don't remember.

Is there any indication the 2 pack includes a new or better transfer of the original? I've seen the 4K available via Paramount+ and while okay still leaves a lot to be desired.

The 4K thru iTunes is gorgeous. Bluray.com rating is near perfect for the physical disc. Must be the Paramount+ version.

Read the review on BR.com. Very encouraging to get the dual feature disc set.

I have been hearing that Maverick is almost near if not actually Demo quality. So having both will be great. Thank you.

So I checked the original out for about 10-15min on Amazon Prime as it's only there for a few more days. Way better than Paramount+. Amazon had it in HDR with DD+.

Then I remembered we had it on iTunes per the digital code we'd redeemed when we bought the 3D Blu. Last I checked it had still been HD. Well since the last time I looked, Apple upgraded it to 4K DV + Atmos. Very excellent presentation for first 10-15 min.

Even more happy to pick up the 2 movie disc set as I am certain the original will be even better with that higher bitrate from the local disc.

Pre-ordered the Amazon Steelbook. One of the year’s surprises by far and a worthy purchase in my opinion. Kind of surprised there’s not a new Steelbook of the original film to go along with Maverick.

Might have to switch to the two movie 4K collection.

I could I suppose. The Steelbook looks cool and I don’t buy very many (I don’t have a Best Buy locally and they seem to be the big place for them).

Same here... I like the look of the steelbook but I just want the discs and the Maverick digital code.

why the 6 week gap between digital rental & physical? usually when the rental price drops to $5.99 is when the Blu-ray comes out...

Maverick rental is showing as $5.99 today on iTunes but $7.99 on Vudu for the UHD version.

My Steelbook arrived today. It’s pretty nondescript. Almost ugly. Maybe I should have got the Wal-Mart version with alternative art work.

Ours from BB showed up on 10/28. I think the artwork looks decent enough.

I got my Walmart version on Saturday, and the alternate cover thing is a giant magnet. I watched the movie last night, my first viewing of the movie and it was quite fun.

My copy came in from Amazon yesterday and I fired it up this morning. Yeah, this is a reference 4K disc all the way around.
