Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
I'll finally get to watch this next week!

Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
This is one of the few Blu-rays I plan on buying this year. I’m excited. It was such a fun movie.
The supplemental material looks like a bunch of ego stroking featurettes for Tom Cruise but, screw it, I’ll watch anyway. |
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
I preordered the Steelbook from Walmart a couple months back to get free shipping on something I wanted. Hopefully they update the release date to Nov 1 soon.

Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
I’ll pay week 1 prices when it comes in November. Thats how much I enjoyed this. Looks like no “free” streaming on Paramount plus yet. |

I could order the Steelbook from Best Buy, which is my preference, but I'm afraid of missing out on this Wal-Mart exclusive, whatever it is. |

 So you're like one of the 10 people in the U.S. who still hasn't seen this yet. :D |
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
Aug. 23rd on digital and November 1 on physical media...so Paramount+ sometime in October?
|
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
I hope that is the offical artwork that they show on the websites and not a spec.
I wonder what is so special about the Target Steelbook when it is sold out but available at other stores? |

Same here though kind of sad when there were not a lot of good Summer 2022 movies that were worth purchasing. I am just getting Jurassic Park Dominion since I have the other movies. |

Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
I've been waiting for this. To be honest, I couldn't believe how well this movie did but, granted, I've never seen TOP GUN.
Sooooo, I purchased Top Gun on Ebay and have been waiting for Maverick to get released (figuring it'd be two months after theatre's). Guess that double feature will wait until November but I'm interested to see what all the hype was about. :p |
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
Is this the universal artwork for the Best Buy, Amazon, Wal-Mart, and Target steelbooks? |

Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
I can not wait to see this in my home theater in 4K. It was so good in theaters.
|
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
I tend to only go see Marvel flicks in theatres these days but all the praise may have me checking this out before it is released.

The paper cover art is probably printed double sided so you can flip it over if you prefer the other art.

So it looks like a metal magnetic plaque that you can put over the front cover for a different look. That's unusual.

Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
I wasn’t planning on getting the Maverick digital, but I had a $5 credit from Fandango to use and I splurged. But I later discovered that Vudu gave me one of those special offers for Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick together for $14.99. I completely missed it. I could have gotten both movies UHD for $9.99 after the credit. :grumble: Damn. Oh well. This will hold me over until November. I still plan to get the 4K disc.
|
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
Debating between the steelbook and the two movie UHD set. $5 difference on Amazon now.
|
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
I have a $5 RZ certificate burning a hole in my pocket. That steelbook looks pretty sweet... sold!

Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
Guess there is not really a store exclusive since Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target all have the same steelbook cover artwork though one has interchangeable art as mentioned before.
|
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
Got that Wal-Mart exclusive pre-ordered. This is probably my fourth disc purchase of the year. Feels so different from the peak collecting days.
|
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
The Digital Bits has confirmed that the IMAX shifting AR will be included.
[Editor’s Note: We have now confirmed with Paramount Home Entertainment that Top Gun: Maverick on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and Digital WILL indeed feature a variable aspect ratio presentation that shifts back and forth from 2.39 to 1.78 for the IMAX sequences.] |
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
It was reported on another forum that on currently available streaming copies of the movie, the IMAX sequences open to 1.90:1, not 1.78:1. This makes sense, as the movie was filmed with IMAX digital cameras, which shoot at that ratio.

Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
Hope that does not mean the picture goes full screen and then widescreen which is kind of annoying

Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
Is there any indication the 2 pack includes a new or better transfer of the original? I've seen the 4K available via Paramount+ and while okay still leaves a lot to be desired.

The 4K thru iTunes is gorgeous. Bluray.com rating is near perfect for the physical disc. Must be the Paramount+ version.
I have been hearing that Maverick is almost near if not actually Demo quality. So having both will be great. Thank you. |

Read the review on BR.com. Very encouraging to get the dual feature disc set.

Then I remembered we had it on iTunes per the digital code we'd redeemed when we bought the 3D Blu. Last I checked it had still been HD. Well since the last time I looked, Apple upgraded it to 4K DV + Atmos. Very excellent presentation for first 10-15 min. Even more happy to pick up the 2 movie disc set as I am certain the original will be even better with that higher bitrate from the local disc. |
Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
Pre-ordered the Amazon Steelbook. One of the year’s surprises by far and a worthy purchase in my opinion. Kind of surprised there’s not a new Steelbook of the original film to go along with Maverick.

Re: Top Gun: Maverick - 11/1/22
Might have to switch to the two movie 4K collection.
