I'm kind of tempted to just get the singles except part 5. I like having the individual artworks. I don't really care for the 6 movie movie box set artwork. I don't like TMP enough to get that massive box set. I haven't watched the new 4K remaster on P+ yet, but it along with 5 are my least favorite of TOS franchise. I'm sure many are going to be pissed that they bought the I-IV box set a few years ago. That was a pointless set. A few years ago? That shit came out September of last year. It hasn't even been a year and now this announcement. |
Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
I wonder if the 1983 TV version is in 4K or just ON the 4K disc? I can't imagine they took the time to render it in 4K.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
I think this is the first time TMP Special Longer Version has been available on anything other than VHS and Laserdisc, right? And both of those were fullframe, IIRC?
Edit: OK, The Digital Bits has quite a comprehensive post on what each release contains. But to answer some of the questions I had:

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
Ugh.. Paramount. Couldn’t just make this easy and have to milk fans. Not quite sure what I’ll do. Part of me is leaning towards getting the Complete Adventure set for TMP and the singles for the other five movies.
I’m not paying almost $100 for just the TMP set though. Hopefully that drops in price. If not I can live with having the theatrical version on Blu-ray only from my old box set and live without the Special Longer Version and just get the director’s edition single release. Also I’m in no rush to get any of these. As much as I love Trek I’m sure these releases will be around for a while and will eventually go down in price. The Complete Adventure TMP set may be the one I grab right away just because that might go out of print sooner. |

I bought 1-10 for $20 on iTunes last year, and it looks like the first 4 have already upgraded to 4K. Plus, I have the Wrath of Khan director's cut in UHD on VUDU. Since I kept the two disc DVDs for all ten movies that is probably enough for me. That having been said a reissue of the director's edition of the first movie would be tempting in a way nothing else really is.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
I'd love to have that TMP set but it's way too expensive for a bunch of doodads that I don't really have room for. I've wanted a good copy of the SLV for years, maybe they'll put it another set down the road.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
Well I'm confused as fuck.
It's like I need a goddamned chart to figure out what's on what. Also doesn't help that this stuff is coming from twitter. |
Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
It's weird how much effort they are putting into ST:TMP after treating it like it had leprosy for so many decades.
I want all of these in 4K but dammit, I have the super awesome boxset on BD and have barely watched it. And the price on it has been fantastically low at many times over the years and includes not only all the movies but the TV show and the animated series. Knowing my luck, I would buy these, and they would soon release a new set with those shows included in 4K. Ugh. |
Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
Screw it. I pre-ordered the big TMP set. I had some Amazon points that brought it down. Hopefully the price drops more before it releases.
I’ll get the other five eventually. |
Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
I wouldn't mind having the longer television cut but not for $100, I would probably only watch it once anyways. I have only watched the Blade Runner workprint version once and I haven't even watched any of the alternate cuts that came with the Army Of Darkness release put out by Shout.
|
Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
I’m not a huge Trek fan, but I’m a sucker for alternate cuts. $100 is just too steep though. Plus my friends and I have made so many jokes about the unnecessary length of those TMP shots, I can’t imagine it longer.
|
Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
That’s one of the enduring aspects as to why I love TMP, those long shots that linger for minutes in silence. I would imagine our first trips to space being somewhat like that.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
I pre-ordered the deluxe set of TMP and the set of all 6-films:

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
Fine, I also got the TMP box set and the movie collection.
I see TMP box set is now an Amazon best seller. I assume the prices for both will drop more closer to release time. |
Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
David Fein is the producer of TMP Director's Edition 4K remaster. So he would definitely be in the know of it's status and availability.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
I put in a pre-order for the TMP boxed set. If I decide I don't want it between now and release day, I'll cancel my pre-order or take it and flip it if I don't want it if it looks like it will increase in price.
I have more money than sense these days, so a hundred bucks for something like this isn't a big deal. |
Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
I am confused. So, which is limited? Are there 3 boxsets or 2? Which of these are limited?
Is the SLV included in the complete adventure set or just the special solo edition of The Motion Picture? Is there stuff (other than the packaging and trinkets) included in the solo edition set or are all movie materials included in one of the boxsets that includes are the movies? I guess I am getting confused by the term "complete adventure" which I would assume includes all the movies. |

See what I posted above. TMP box set is limited and has the special longer version.
There’s only two box sets. And the term "complete adventure" makes me think it includes all the movies with the original cast and not just the first movie. I wish they would include Generations with the original cast sets. I know it doesn't include all of them, but Kirk and a few others make up a large part of that movie. And I don't really care for the other Next Gen movies. Bit I am probably an outlier in this thought. |
Re: Star Trek Films in 4K
Is there any advantage to getting the 6 Movie Collection box over getting the individual releases of II-VI if I'm already getting the Complete Adventure TMP box? Bonus discs or additional content that aren't included with the individual releases?
