Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

Star Trek: First Contact is now in 4K on Paramount+. Looks like all the effects have been remastered as well, like that original three.

So why exactly did I buy the first 4 in a set again?

Because you like helping to pay the CEO of Paramount his $55 million a year salary?

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

Singles will be available, though I would have bought a second box of 5,6 and the DE of 1 to put beside the first one.

Looking forward to picking up TWOK when it hits $10. TMP: DE will be a day one buy. I can live with the rest on 4K digital as iTunes upgrades them for free.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

Well I’m glad I didn’t buy that other box set then. Might get the new set of the TOS films if it’s not too expensive. Hopefully a box set of the TNG films comes along too.

I watched the 4K DV/5.1 of First Contact on P+ yesterday and it looked and sounded great. The discs should look great for he latter films.

Singles artwork and they are using the original movie posters.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

If I only bought singles, I’d get 2, 3, 4 and 6. I know there are some who say that 3 wasn’t good, but it’s part of a 3 film arc. I personally like 3.

I think III is great and caps off that story arc very well. I’ll even pick up V, as weird as it is.

I might actually lean towards the singles now. I like that they’re using the original art on them. I’ll get them all personally.

Also add me to the group who likes The Search For Spock. You need it for the arc of II-IV first of all, but I’m it’s own it’s an interesting movie with seeing more of the Genesis planet. Kruge is also a memorable villain and it’s cool to see Christopher Lloyd play the part.

Search for Spock is a hell of a lot better than the dopey Voyage Home.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

We only got three seasons of the series and six movies with the original cast, so I find that all six films are worthwhile, even if some are better than others.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

Ordered all six single 4K/BD releases and the last two films on BD for the parents. Can't wait.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

I don't do 4k, but I did order TMP and ST6 on blu because of the Director's Cuts. I prefer those versions, and neither had been available on Blu previously.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

I'm done with this. I paid way to much for issues and reissues of the Trek movies and the fact they purposely held back the Director's Edition from the 4k boxed set without saying anything will keep me from buying another Trek anything. I was moving away from buying physical media anyways.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

So no OCD completist will be getting TMP Director's Edition box set with the bonus disc, the single edition, and then the 6 movie box set?

I'm kind of tempted to just get the singles except part 5. I like having the individual artworks. I don't really care for the 6 movie movie box set artwork.

I don't like TMP enough to get that massive box set. I haven't watched the new 4K remaster on P+ yet, but it along with 5 are my least favorite of TOS franchise.

I'm sure many are going to be pissed that they bought the I-IV box set a few years ago. That was a pointless set.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

I want the 6 singles since they have the theatrical art and look great but I don’t trust Amazon to not fuck up and only deliver some of them. Plus the 1-4 box set had availability problems when it first came out. We shall see.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

So to be clear, is the TMP theatrical cut exclusive to the box sets and the limited edition? There's no standard single release with that version?
