I’m down for new special features but I’d also like all the old ones compiled in there too because there’s a lot of them I never got around to watching.

I think about all of the special features that I have yet to watch and wonder if I will ever watch them. Probably not.

Are they still refusing to combine the DVD special features into one Bluray disc? I don't care if they're still SD, just put them all on one disc!

Like they wouldn't want a company to release a full season a tv series in 480p on a single blu-ray disc, even thought would be doable and convenient for consumers. Or for one of those budget mills to put two dozen public domains Western movies on a single blu-ray disc in 480p VHS quality.
Don't know if that carries over to supplemental discs in sets like these, too.

I think the BDA frowns on the idea of packing a bunch of SD content onto blu-ray discs.

There’s been a few anime sets that have done that. And I don’t think supplements would fall under that anyways. Just upscale them to 720 if it’s such a big deal.

I don't know why but I was assuming this was going to be a dual format release. 31 discs makes complete sense if its UHD only and would indicate that the LOTR supplements will be on 3 dvds. But that's assuming that the above pic is accurate too. I wish they'd just announce it already.

All previous announcements have stated this next release will be a UHD/Bluray release. The first release was UHD only.

Which announcement is that? The original one that said it was going to be released in the summer does not say that. It says a Blu-ray remastered set of the original trilogy will also be released.

I am good with my 4K Steelbook sets for both series. I have no need for extra BDs of the films or discs with supplements that I will never watch. I had all those other releases with the huge making of documentaries for years and never watched a one of them.

Now it's official. Ships October 26th
Here's official artwork and specs
$249.99 currently at Amazon
I imagine it will be discounted 25-30% off that price.

Wow, if that blu ray disc and booklet are the only extras, there’s no way that I’ll sink more money into this.

Bill Hunt posted a thread on it
No official word on extras yet other than the bonus blu-ray. It doesn't sound like the massive Appendices documentary series is on it

Well, that was a big-assed nothingburger.
$250 (retail) for a skimpy "bonus" disc that has some stuff that will probably be watched once and forgotten, a 64-page booklet, and some postcards?
It's like someone is spiting us for something...
