Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Im still waiting on my Showgirls replacement discs but on the website the VSU set is under 1000 copies now. That's pretty impressive since they made 12,000. VS is having a warehouse sales over Labor Day Weekend to clear out old inventory. Any movies that are DVD only are now going OOP.

I got mine with the August box. Anyone know why they also sent another booklet, though?

I think one of the articles in it is written by a different author. That's all I could find on it online.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
If I'm not mistaken, I believe the first two essays may be miscredited to the wrong authors. The essay called Supine and Sweaty is credited to Abbey Bender while the one called Stupid and Smart is credited to Adam Nayman, author of the book It Doesn't Suck: Showgirls. Yet the Supine and Sweaty piece opens with a reference to its writer having penned the It Doesn't Suck book, which suggests that Vinegar Syndrome erroneously swapped the author names.
I don't know if anyone else picked up on this, and I was not able to get any confirmation on whether it's really an error. I've tried to reach out to Nayman through a mutual friend, but I don't know if he got the message yet.

I got an email from VS six days ago saying my Showgirls replacement disc had shipped, but the tracking number they provided is invalid.
FWIW, the email says there's both a replacement disc and a replacement booklet.

Still waiting on my replacement. I got an email on August 17 saying it was shipped by ‘endicia’ but that company seems to have no record of the tracking number, and it’s not a typical USPS, UPS, or FedEx number either.

Seems like everybody has had the same problem. Whatever software and/or service VS is using for postage isn't giving them valid tracking numbers. Despite that, the packages have been arriving eventually. Hopefully yours does so as well soon.

It's that time of year again...Our 2023 Black Friday Flash Pre-order is only days away; beginning this Friday the 22nd at 12:01 AM EDT, and running through Sunday the 24th at 11:59 PM EDT!
Our next VSU (another Paramount classic) along with three out of five of our November VS titles will be unveiled and up for Pre-order. This will include our mammoth 10-film box set, which we can assure you will be our most ambitious collection EVER (the first of its kind in the history of home video) and well worth the wait.
If this is going to be your first Black Friday with us, you should know that, in addition to the VSU and VS titles being announced this Friday, once the Black Friday Sale itself goes live in November, we'll be unveiling our two final, and secret, November releases. Every year we make a point to save the wildest, craziest, and most unexpected films for the main event and this year is no exception and also includes what might be our biggest and most unexpected duo yet. Of course, during the Flash Pre-order you'll be able to lock in your copies!
This year's pre-ordering options will be:
- Everything: VSU + all 5 November VS titles (3 announced and 2 secret)
- Individual listings for the 3 announced VS titles
- Just the new VSU
- Just the 2 Secret VS titles
And remember, no matter what you decide to Flash Pre-order, you'll save money compared to pricing on the same titles during the Black Friday Sale.
See you Friday at 12:01am EDT!

I likely won't be able to preorder anything due to my current finances but Im curious to see what the new movie will be. I finally got my Showgirls Replacement Discs and they both work great. The Showgirls VSU box set is now down 243 copies on the VS website.

The New VSU release is D.A.R.Y.L. A movie I haven't seen since the days of VHS.

A pass for me. I might do The Prophecy 4K trilogy, but the only good film in that is the first one. The sequels all sucked. Can't justify that price either.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Agreed on THE PROPHECY. I suppose they might as well throw in the Walker sequels this many years later, but I got sick of seeing that entire series repackaged ad nauseam on budget dvd collections over the years. It never really went away so anyone could miss it, so surely it’s pretty pooped out at this point?
At first I figured the 10-film set might be some kind of porn thing, but then I realized that’s all been moved to another site, so then I figured it might be some themed (or filmmaker-centric) collection of regional or foreign oddities (like the Arrow/Severin boxes), and failing that perhaps a mix of super rarities, so apparently it was the latter, but at that price point for movies no one would likely watch more than once, paired with a documentary about how great the boutique labels are for rescuing this shit and suckering people into paying (ever-increasing) top dollar for it, it’s not hard to pass on it . . . for now. Would be neat to see FATAL GAMES all cleaned up with extras, but not at that price, and once one has seen the (according to VS) “absurd final twist that has gone down in slasher history” there isn’t much replay value. And D.A.R.Y.L. was ok but never a thing for me, although like their fancy CLOAK & DAGGER and SIDEKICKS boxes a while back, I’m guessing it will be popular with a certain contingent that grew up in that era. The last two rounds of VS announcements have been good for my bank account.

Yeah, of those, Fatal Games is the only one on my list, and even then, I’d still wait for a sale or get the standard release down the road.
Maybe the two secret titles will be more my speed.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Well, I’m a sucker for their VSU line, so I’ll grab D.A.R.Y.L. but I long ago stopped buying every one of their non-VSU 4K releases.
Edit: my wife’s reaction to D.A.R.Y.L. was “oh my god I used to watch that movie all the time, I love it!” which is the same thing she said about Cloak & Dagger and Sidekicks, so yeah, we’re getting it.
The Prophecy trilogy is intriguing to me, but not sure it’s enough to make me go for it. I imagine only the first one is worth the time?
edit: I can stream them on Paramount+. So yeah, I’ll do that.

I’m in the middle of a buying spree, so am considering my first VS bundle. Noticed that none of the descriptions here mention commentary tracks, don’t they typically have them in their new releases?

Nothing is "typical" about a Vinegar Syndrome release, Trev. Some have commentaries, some don't. Their big goal is film restoration, presenting the best possible film-to-video transfer, but everything else is a coin flip.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Gotta say, this new-ish trend of announcing titles without including the supplements because they’re still in progress is extremely annoying, especially when they clearly expect people to jump at these ‘limited time’ prices. For me, it’s one more reason to hold off for future sales (real ones) on these titles, or standard editions. Shout does this, too, but their pre-order prices don’t go back up in the meantime or after the extras are announced.
