The HDR on the Vinegar Syndrome disc is already a little pushed. I'm not sure what Dolby Vision could really offer, unless it somehow dials that back a little bit, which seems unlikely. There's also nothing at all wrong with the encoding on the VS disc. Letting Fidelity in Motion fiddle with the dials just to be able to say they've increased the bit rate will accomplish absolutely no meaningful difference - except of course to the FiM cultists who watch movies with the bit rate meter on their screen the entire time.

Unfortunately the Arrow release of A Fistful Of Dollars is delayed to May 12th.

Does anyone know if there was ever a replacement program for The Cell (2000)?

It's great they are sending out replacement discs but I'd like to know if there is some way to tell if the corrected Cell discs are for sale online now. I know Amazon pulled their stock after the disc error was discovered but it's now back in stock.

That link just sends you to Arrow's generic customer service page.

I ended up just emailing Customer Service and asking if there was a replacement program for the release in the States.

Hopefully, I'll get a response soon.

Given the long history of muddled releases of this film and Arrow's (sometimes) rough QC, I'd rather it be delayed to get it absolutely right.

I got a response to send them the "SKU/Cat No. beginning FCD (for UK products) or AV (for US/CA products)"

Not sure what this is. The SKU is usually the barcode, but not sure what the AV prefix means. I looked at the inner ring of the disc to see if there was something there with AV, but I don't see any AV.

That's strange, I wonder if the order of those is reversed.

What did you end up sending them?

It's the catalog number that shows on the spine

The rest of the information was a copy of the receipt (I screenshotted my B&N order page), and my address, phone and email.

Okay, yeah, I see it now. I guess I overthought this one a bit.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

My replacement disc request has been accepted. Ended up they were satisfied with just writing my name and date on the original disc for proof of purchase. We'll see how long it takes to ship it, but it's not a big deal, I'm usually bad about doing these things, and I'm sure I wouldn't even have noticed the problem.

I lost my original receipt (B&M purchase) so I'm glad they are accepting this as a proof of purchase.

Still haven't gotten a response to my email query, so the waiting game continues.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Arrow teased some new titles being announced on Friday with a stock image of a golden cobra, which seems to have a lot of folks assuming Stallone’s COBRA is getting the 4K treatment. If that’s true, it would be cool if it contained more than one version of the film. Other speculation has brought up SNAKES ON A PLANE and various G.I. JOE movies, Arrow’s clues aren’t always so on-the-nose, so it could be something totally different.

I don't think it's Stallone's Cobra since Shout Factory already released the bluray. Snakes on a Plane is my likely guess.

Snakes on a Plane seems most likely to me too, but Diabolik DVD posted the following:

…that people are saying could apply to Cobra. There’s also speculation that it could be Cobra and part of a larger Cannon box set.

Or The Golden Child. But probably Snakes on a Plane.

I am not a fan of Snakes on a Plane but if that 30-minute pre-release cut is indeed being released I will consider it. It'd have to be properly restored with full 4K video/audio, not some shitty workprint.

I don't remember there being a longer pre-release version of Snakes on a Plane. I remember them having a PG-13 cut and they did reshoots to make it an R-rated movie.

This is where my mind immediately went. Stallone’s COBRA did seem to exist in a much different, finished form before it actually went out. As bluelitespecial pointed out, Shout already did a Blu-ray, but it appears to be down to very low quantities on their site (unless they restock?). The thought of a box (or a line) of Cannon films is probably overdue. They experienced something of a resurgence back when Mark Hartley’s ELECTRIC BOOGALOO came out, and extended interviews from all of his documentaries still turn up on boutique Blu-rays of various films to this day, including many never-before-seen clips. I know a lot of Cannon films have been given the deluxe treatment (like Tobe Hooper’s big three), but it would be cool to see some more given the treatment now, perhaps with some packaging details or artwork to tie them together a little bit. Also, maybe the sales figures for their recent DEMOLITION MAN set convinced them that another vintage Warner Stallone title might be worthwhile (?).

Also, according to the Wiki, the finished COBRA was in the vicinity of 130-ish minutes. The release version is 89 minutes. And apparently a lot of the footage cut was to get the film from an X rating down to an R. So Diabolik’s “over 30 minutes of additional footage” seems to jibe with this.

SNAKES ON A PLANE would be interesting to see in a longer cut, but it’s not a picture I’ve ever felt a need to own, and would a missing 30-plus minutes of footage make a difference on that one?

They've been announcing a bunch of New Line Cinema movies lately so Snakes on a Plane seems more likely.

True enough, but they’ve also had some Warner stuff too, with DEMOLITION MAN, SWORDFISH, and DEEP BLUE SEA.

The movie that Jesse from Diabolik is referring to may have nothing to do with Arrow's tease, so it could still be Snakes on a Plane that Arrow's teasing while Jesse is talking about...The Stuff, maybe?

We won't have to wait long to find out, at least.

I’ll gladly take an extended/lost cut of the Stuff & Cobra. Snakes On A Plane however I’ll just stick with my blu.

Oooooh, I LOVE The Stuff.

I already have the 2023 Arrow release but if they offer up a 4K or even Blu-ray of a director's cut, I'll reward them by pre-ordering it, 100%. 💯
