Alien (40th Anniversary Edition) -- 4K UHD -- 4/23/19

The new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray will contain the 1979 Theatrical Version, as well as the 2003 Director’s Cut, with the 2003 audio commentary by Ridley Scott and the Cast & Crew. In addition, the 1999 Audio Commentary by Ridley Scott for the original 1979 Theatrical Version will also be included. This disc will also feature the Final Theatrical Isolated Score in Dolby Digital 5.1, for the 1979 Theatrical Version only, as well as the composer’s original Isolated Score, also in Dolby Digital 5.1, and again for the 1979 Theatrical Version Only. Also included are several deleted scenes.
The film was restored in 4K in 2018 by 20th Century Fox at Company 3/Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, supervised by Ridley Scott and Pam Dery, with the 4K scans were done at EFilm. Alien is one of the greatest sci-fi films and one of the greatest horror films ever made, and no film lover's collection is complete without it.

Yeah I'm tempted to pick this one up too. I hope Aliens is not too far behind. Only trouble is who would oversee a 4K remaster of Aliens since James Cameron is not available.
Don't throw out or sell your Alien BD box sets though. Those have the long and extensive documentaries and this new set seems to only focus on the new 4K remaster.

Give me Aliens 4K
If it's reference quality, the pinnacle of 4K and all it's heavenly glory...I won't die over a double dip on 4K. I never bothered with the Blu-rays. Not a huge fan of the franchise but I love 2,3,4. For some reason I find Alien boring but I enjoy it.

It shouldn't look as good as it does....except it was downconverted from a 4K master.

Looking forward to the teal and orange alien.
Seriously though, I hope they don't screw up the transfer...I'm holding out on this one until some reviews are in.

Might get it on sale, but otherwise I'm perfectly fine with the box set.

Not that it really matters, but that cover is terrible.
I'll hold out for reviews and/or a price drop. I've bought this movie so many times over the years

Agree completely. This is what I said about it in the Steelbook thread:
I don't care for the bright, liquid metal look they've given everything on that artwork. Doesn't fit with the tone or aesthetic of the movie, in my opinion.

^ Exactly right (both of your posts above). I don't think it even fits the tone or aesthetic of the any of the films in the series. I think about each one, and I just don't see how it works for any of them, but especially the original film.

You guys really complaining about the slipcover?
The BD of this looks amazing and this is the title I was really waiting to check out in 4K. DAY 1 purchase.

I'm one of the biggest slipcover collectors out there and I could care less at this point. The catalog titles will be released over and over with different art anyway. I'd be more concerned on the artwork for the eventual box set.

Exciting, but I think I'll hold out for the inevitable box set, unless I come across a good deal on this (probably BF).
