Very much on topic, this 4k edition is currently available for pre-order at $15 (with free shipping) at Walmart.com.

Best Buy now has it up for pre-order at $18.
Strangely, Amazon has no listing...

Why can't studios just use the original poster art for their covers? What was wrong with the damn egg?

As others have said, they wanted to use something that jumped out and showed this was a brand new 4K release. People like us know, but the average customer seeing it on the shelf may just glaze over the old poster artwork and think it's nothing new.

I'd be surprised if it's today only. They're pricematching Walmart (as Amazon so often does), and Walmart's had it at this price for a good long while now.

I vote for "gloss over".

I misread the article linking the Amazon ad. Pretty sure you’d be correct.

No, glaze...like you see something, but your eyes aren't perceiving completely what is there. "Gloss" (as Adan mentioned) works as well.

That's the very definition of glance over. Glazed over describes when something takes on a unclear/cloudy/glassy appearance. Like they say someone's eyes appear glazed over when they're very drunk or tired.

Re: Alien (40th Anniversary Edition) -- 4K UHD -- 4/23/19

Some people in Europe have started to receive their copies and have posted screenshots on the other forum.

Don't know how accurate the caps will prove to be, but it looks possible the minority of us who always had a problem with the color timing and the contrast of the bd, might catch a break this time.

The other big issue with the Blu-ray is that it's cropped on all four sides of the frame. I'd love to see that corrected as well.

Caps up now.

At least several shots are definitely not zoomed in now.

Alien: 40th Anniversary (4K UHD Review)

Actually cancelled my pre-order as the included BR is the same as in the Quadrilogy set. Haven't upgraded to 4k (yet) and this will probably be in the $8-$10 range this holiday season.

Re: Alien (40th Anniversary Edition) -- 4K UHD -- 4/23/19

Hell, this 4K really delivers. Absolutely gorgeous picture. Blacks look so good, and the palette looks really natural. Very pissed new audio wasn't remastered, it would have really added to the experience. Overall, well worth the price.

This is $14.96 on Amazon currently. Might as well upgrade at that price.

Re: Alien (40th Anniversary Edition) -- 4K UHD -- 4/23/19

Pretty much everything that I hated about the Blu-ray's visuals and, prior to that, the remastered DVD, has finally been fixed on the UHD.

A hearty and sincere "thank you!" to Mr. Scott for finally returning this film to it's natural grandeur, without the candy colors and jacked up contrast.
